The Position:The Environmental Engineer provides air regulatory expertise, compliance permitting, program development, agency interface and reporting for the Bayport Site. This position is a champion for site environmental compliance processes and actively engages all levels of the workforce across the Operations, Maintenance, and Projects teams to enable continuous improvement. The Environmental Engineer (Air) is responsible for assisting the site to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements and INEOS Styrolution SHEQ policies for the operation of the permitted site.
What You Will Do: This position provides regulatory expertise, coaching and hands-on support to drive environmental compliance. The position delivers regulatory and company environmental training and applies requirements site-wide. It works and liaises with all levels of INEOS Styrolution employees, external agencies and peers throughout the Company to improve environmental performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Prepares and submits air permits, emission reports, incident reports, variance petitions, and surveys. Performs emissions calculations, ensures compliance with environmental regulations, and manages air compliance programs.
- Policy and Program Development: Develops, revises, and delivers site environmental policies, programs, and training aligned with regulatory standards, INEOS principles, and site goals.
- Incident Management: Conducts and documents environmental incident investigations, implements corrective actions, and participates in incident management to prevent recurrences.
- Agency and Stakeholder Communication: Interacts with regulatory agencies, negotiates resolutions on permitting and compliance issues, and communicates the impact of regulations to site personnel and management.
- Audits and Field Reviews: Participates in SHE assurance audits, conducts field reviews, and monitors conformance to environmental programs, intervening to improve performance when necessary.
- Support for Projects and Best Practices: Provides support to capital projects and turnarounds, networks with corporate peers to ensure regulatory consistency, and shares best practices to enhance environmental performance.
What You Will Bring: - Experience: Five to ten years of experience in environmental compliance, with at least five years in a plant environment.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering.
- Air Compliance Expertise: Significant experience in air compliance (90% focus), including LDAR, air permits (e.g., NSR, Title V), and knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Multimedia Knowledge: Familiarity with RCRA, soil remediation, DOT regulations, wastewater, and stormwater rules.
- Standards and Systems: Working knowledge of ISO standards, including ISO audits, and experience with data management systems like SAP or KMS.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
