The Position:The Environmental Engineer provides air regulatory expertise, compliance permitting, program development, agency interface and reporting for the Bayport Site. This position is a champion for site environmental compliance processes and actively engages all levels of the workforce across the Operations, Maintenance, and Projects teams to enable continuous improvement. The Environmental Engineer (Air) is responsible for assisting the site to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements and INEOS Styrolution SHEQ policies for the operation of the permitted site.
What You Will Do: This position provides regulatory expertise, coaching and hands-on support to drive environmental compliance. The position delivers regulatory and company environmental training and applies requirements site-wide. It works and liaises with all levels of INEOS Styrolution employees, external agencies and peers throughout the Company to improve environmental performance.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities of the job: - Prepares and presents agency documents such as air permits, emission reports, incident reports, variance petitions and other surveys.
- Performs emissions calculations and understands the impact of various operating conditions on emissions.
- Assists in the selection of air pollution control technology for new or modified equipment.
- Reviews, interprets, and clarifies legal requirements applicable to the Bayport site, and takes initiative to ensure site programs comply with requirements.
- Communicate impact of environmental regulations and requirements site personnel and management. Recommend and support implementation of solutions to regulatory challenges.
- Manage air compliance programs or components of such programs, as assigned.
- Compile and submit complete and accurate information and data necessary to measure performance towards plant SHE goals and regulatory compliance, as assigned. (Regulatory compliance reporting assignments may include completing quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports, response to inquiries etc.)
- Participate in SHE assurance audits for the site.
- Provide support or lead negotiations with agencies to drive resolution around issues (e.g., permitting, compliance etc.) as assigned.
- Conducts and documents investigations of environmental incidents and ensures follow-up actions to prevent recurrences that are addressed.
- Supports company behavioral and process safety expectations supporting the 20 INEOS principles, IGGNs, SHE KPIs, risk assessments, etc.
- Manages assigned environmental programs and procedures, monitors conformance and intervenes to improve performance.
- Develops and revises site environmental policies and programs.
- Develops and delivers environmental training to address regulatory and INEOS Styrolution standards, and site environmental policies, programs and procedures.
- Participates in incident management as requested.
- Interacts with external regulatory agencies and auditors.
- Networks with peers across the corporation to ensure consistency of interpretation of regulatory requirements and shares best practices.
- Provides support to turnarounds and capital projects.
- Conducts field reviews, audits, and investigations which involve environmental compliance performance.
- Understands how their work affects the environment. Sets performance objectives and provides leadership to minimize impact on the environment. Communicates the importance of these issues.
What You Will Bring: - Five (5) to Ten (10) years of experience in Environmental compliance,
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a plant environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline (Chemical Engineering Preferred)
- Multimedia experience with at least 90% of time spent focused on Air compliance including LDAR.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Environmental Regulations, including pending changes.
- Experience with obtaining or renewing air permits (i.e. NSR, Title V, etc.)
- Experience with RCRA, Soil Remediation and DOT highly desirable.
- Experience with Water (Wastewater & Stormwater) rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of ISO; experience with ISO audits preferred.
- Experience with data management information systems (e.g., SAP, KMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
