The Department of Chemical and Life Science Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for an hourly Instructional Design Specialist position.
Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Dean's office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in several degree programs supported by approximately 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees. Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for the hourly Instructional Design Specialist position will develop curriculum and lectures for undergraduate students for a course that would be delivered over an 8-week period focused on teaching how waste materials (e.g., biomass, coal, batteries) can be treated for addressing sustainability and deriving value. A total of 16 classes will be created with lectures, homework, quiz materials. These lectures will be immersive and interactive by using demonstrations, exciting visuals, and opensource software to reinforce the scientific/engineering concepts taught.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of waste materials such as biomass, coal, and batteries
- Extensive knowledge of instructional design and the creation of elearning materials for various audiences
- High-level organizational skills, attention to detail, and computer proficiency in required programs
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in both written and oral form
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned projects
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and short turnaround times

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience.
