Oversight, mentorship, and active support for the professional development of plant environmental personnel are key aspects of this role, fostering a knowledgeable and empowered team. Additionally, the position provides support for regulatory inspections, permit negotiations, and coordinates training to promote environmental, health, and safety compliance within plant operations.
Primary DutiesYour scope of responsibility as Fleet Environmental Manager will include the following primary functions:Environmental- Coordinate, oversee, and implement daily multi-media environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state (including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey), local, and site permit and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure completion of continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) reporting in accordance with Title V permit requirements enforceable by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP), Ohio Department of Environmental Protection (OH DEP), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP), and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Compile monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports. This involves monitoring, recordkeeping, interpreting data, and submitting reports on time to PA DEP, OH DEP, NJ DEP, and relevant federal agencies for all regulatory programs, air, water, waste, chemicals, etc.
- Ensure each facility meets regulatory requirements for site stormwater pollution prevention planning at all times, including those specified by PA DEP, OH DEP, and NJ DEP. As applicable, take samples of stormwater drain systems during rains, conduct analysis of samples to ensure no chemical or oil makes its way into drains, and report findings to the appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Implement discharge prevention measures, including procedures for routine handling of products. Submit recommendations to the facility owner on matters regarding wastewater and water sampling procedures in accordance with NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) compliance overseen by PA DEP, OH DEP, and NJ DEP.
- Maintain multi-media environmental compliance plans, including SPCC/FRP, CEMS QA/QC, SWPPP, etc.
- Provide support to the Owner for interface with local environmental regulators to include preparing for and coordinating inspections, responding to information requests, supporting strategies for and negotiations of permit modifications and renewals, and preparing routine compliance reports and communications.
- Maintain various facets of the company's Environmental Management System (EMS) filing system.
- Serve as the key point-of-contact for meetings with regulators during compliance visits from PA DEP, OH DEP, NJ DEP, and other regulatory agencies.
- Oversee, mentor, and actively support the professional development of plant environmental personnel by providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to meet evolving regulatory and operational requirements.
- Coordinate and conduct EHS Training for all plant(s) personnel.

Working RelationshipsThe Fleet Environmental Manager reports to the Operations Director and works closely with Plant Management, Plant Engineers, and Plant Administrator personnel to coordinate work activities. This role oversees plant environmental personnel and interfaces with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure proper support and coordination.
The Fleet Environmental Manager maintains a close working relationship with NAES Corporate Environmental Support Services and Client corporate contacts.
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsWhile not working from home, the position operates in a power plant environment. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, climb, walk, and stoop throughout the workday, with the possibility of standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear, must be worn for certain duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
This position is primarily work-from-home, with approximately 30% travel required to support power plant assets located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio.
Fitness for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work ScheduleRegularly scheduled workdays are Monday to Friday during standard day shift hours. However, this position requires flexibility to accommodate extended hours, varied shifts, and occasional weekend or holiday work, depending on schedules, workload, and plant conditions. Periodic "on-call" status is also required.
Some travel is required to attend meetings with managers, owners, or user groups, support other power plant assets, and assist with plant operations. Travel may be up to 30% of the time.
CompensationInitial compensation will range from $115,000 to $150,000, plus an annual performance bonus.
Job Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in environmental compliance, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent advanced technical training and experience, is required. Certification as a Level 5 HAZWOPER is preferred.
- Extensive experience in environmental compliance at operating facilities is essential, with a strong preference for experience in the power generation or energy sector. This experience should include a deep understanding of plant operations and the ability to identify and implement strategies to minimize environmental and safety risks while reducing costs.
- Advanced knowledge of power plant operations, including the integration of environmental compliance with operation and maintenance functions.
- Comprehensive understanding of major environmental legislation related to air, water, hazardous materials, and waste management, with demonstrated expertise in at least one regulatory area.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable safety statutes and regulations, with the ability to integrate safety considerations into environmental compliance initiatives.
- Proficiency in using advanced continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS) software and state and federal electronic reporting systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering training programs to diverse audiences, ensuring content is accessible and actionable.
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-priority tasks across multiple facilities and to analyze and address compliance risks promptly and effectively.
- Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with a track record of building consensus and driving collaboration among internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex environmental compliance strategies and recommendations in formal and informal formats.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, with experience managing compliance and reporting tools.
- Must hold a valid, unrestricted driver's license and maintain it in good standing.
