Job Requisition: Environmental Scientist - Fisheries BiologistPosition Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Scientist to join our team in Tampa Florida. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to fisheries studies related to CWA 316 compliance, water quality assessments, and related environmental projects. This role requires expertise in aquatic ecosystems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, execute, and manage fisheries studies, including population assessments, habitat evaluations, and ecosystem impact analyses, survival studies.
- Conduct water quality and other aquatic resources monitoring and assessments, including sampling, analysis, and interpretation of physical, chemical, and biological data.
- Develop and implement project plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and scientific standards following state defined SOPs.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with team members on environmental impact assessments, restoration projects, and ecological modeling.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to aquatic resources.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other staff.
Qualifications:- Master's or Ph.D. in Fisheries Science, Aquatic Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in fisheries studies, aquatic resource analysis, or similar roles.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, Python, GIS tools) and statistical modeling.
- Experience with marine and freshwater fish taxonomy and collection methods, water sampling equipment, aquatic resource monitoring, and habitat assessment methodologies.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork in various environmental conditions.
- Boat operation and trailering experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot field equipment
Preferred Skills:- Knowledge of hydrology, limnology, or marine ecosystems.
- Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory agency interactions.
- Experience in preparing technical reports and client presentations.
- Certifications such as Certified Fisheries Professional (CFP) or similar credentials.
- Demonstrated success in securing funding or grants for research or consulting projects.
- Captains license.
