Job ResponsibilitiesThis employee will be responsible for helping to fulfill the outreach goals of the SC Clean Vessel Act by developing and presenting materials and resources to the boating community, marina operators and owners, and the general public regarding the importance of the Clean Vessel Act and its role in preserving water quality.Job Duties Include:
- Leading SC Clean Vessel Act education and outreach efforts to encourage marinas and boating public participation in the usage of pumpouts, and other clean boating practices.
- Translating scientific concepts such as sources of water pollution and human impact into outreach messages at appropriate Division outreach outlets including public event displays, printed materials and Web site content.
- Identifying new CVA outreach opportunities and ensuring CVA outreach efforts are audience-appropriate and all appropriate audiences are reached.
- Assisting in the development, planning and execution of Division education/outreach events which incorporate data about the Clean Vessel Act and its role in preserving water quality.
- These events, such as Boat Shows and SEWE Expo are targeted towards the boating community and people who use our coastal resources.
- Assisting in the administration of South Carolina Clean Vessel Program.
- Coordinating DNR's partnership with Palmetto Pride in administering the SC Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program.
- Working with other partners to assess the sources of water pollution in SC and further best boating practices within SC.
- Ensuring that all department-owned equipment is in working order.
Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area.
Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of experience in public interaction/outreach desirable. Knowledge and experience developing and presenting outreach materials and resources to the boating community, marina operators and owners, and the general public regarding the importance of the Clean Vessel Act and natural resources. Ability to translate scientific concepts such as water pollution and human impacts into general Division outreach efforts, both oral and written. Excellent communication skills and proven writing skills. Ability to communicate and work well with a broad spectrum on the public. Knowledge of natural resources conservation and management principles. Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and be comfortable with digital content. A level of creativity necessary to develop new and innovative ways to increase public participation of natural resources.
