Job Purpose:This position serves as the Senior Water Quality Compliance Inspector Team Lead for the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services. You will be assisting with the implementation of the regional recreational waters program as well as supervising the team responsible for implementing the regional drinking water, recreational water, wastewater, stormwater, engineering, laboratory analysis, and beachfront monitoring programs in support of SCDES' roles and responsibilities for overseeing the protection and preservation of South Carolina's environment and natural resources.
Job Duties: - Supervises a team of water quality compliance inspectors and analysts.
- Conduct routine inspections of recreational waters facilities to determine compliance in accordance with the regulations, agency standard operating procedures, and the Bureau of Water schedule frequency.
- Respond to and investigate complaints on recreational waters, drinking water, agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater facilities and unpermitted sites.
- Provide expert level technical assistance to the regulated community and public when necessary or requested.
Minimum and Additional Requirements - A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field;
- OR an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and three (3) years of environmental health or related experience;
- OR a high school diploma and five (5) years of environmental health or related experience.
Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, etc.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience and knowledge with federal and state recreational waters, drinking water, agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater permitting and compliance requirements.
- Experience and knowledge with recreational waters, drinking water, agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater inspection processes, standard operating procedures, compliance and enforcement guidelines, and other related processes and procedures including laboratory analysis and engineering.
