Responsible for performing a variety of leadership and administration functions including laboratory operations, scheduling oversight, quality control, receiving and verifying services provided, invoice submission and reconciliation for services rendered. Work with laboratory analysis and quality assurance employees within an established environmental laboratory (non-medical) network of three laboratories. Duties will include sample receipt, analysis, reporting, management of laboratory staff, QA/QC duties (including but not limited to document control, corrective action, audit response and SOP review). The position of California Environmental Laboratory Manager functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the Mission, Vision, Values of Metropolitan Solutions. This is a senior-level position and will oversee a professional laboratory staff. Great position for an individual who works well with others and possesses initiative and leadership capability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES- Function and duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Monitor laboratory production output
- Manage other laboratory work such as PT schedules, DOCs, equipment maintenance, etc.
- Monitor staff technical/professional development
- Manage equipment repairs and calibrations
- Monitor QA submissions to the Quality Assurance/Control Manager
- Manage consumable inventory levels
- Monitor subcontracted work for on-time delivery of results
- Review invoices for accuracy prior to submission
- Meet with customers as needed
- Attend professional association meetings as necessary
- Facilitate intra-lab communications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related scientific field
- Project Management experience 3+ years
- Any certification in accounting, human resources, office administration is beneficial.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE- Strong computer skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the terminology and core competencies of laboratory process management and quality controls
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED- Experience must be in a commercial laboratory
- Experience with a LIMS system, sample receipt and analysis
- Familiarity with AIHA and or ELAP audit requirements a plus
- MS Office applications

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

WORK CONDITIONS- The incumbent functions autonomously on a day-to-day basis and manages assigned duties accordingly
- Office environment with no hazards or significantly unpleasant conditions
- Travel may be required throughout the region
- Work hours are typically Monday through Friday; however, must be able to occasionally work evening or weekend hours if project demands
