Description and Terms of EmploymentUnder the general direction of the Aquatic Director and supervision of the pool managers and head lifeguards, Monona Pool Aquatic Attendants are responsible for greeting patrons and guests of the Monona Outdoor Pool in a friendly and courteous manner, distributing food and beverages, daily maintenance and upkeep of the facility, and accepting payment for use of pool.
This is a limited-term, seasonal (summer) position beginning in June and ending in August. Hours for this position will vary from 10-30 per week and will include days, evenings, and weekend hours.
1st year - $10.00
2nd year - $11.00
3rd year - $12.00
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs various activities at the admission stand, including, but not limited to, greeting and assisting patrons; checking pool passes to ensure they are being utilized by authorized individuals; collecting fees for admittance; and maintaining records of patrons entering the facility.
- Performs various activities at concession stands, including but not limited to, opening and closing the stands at designated times; maintaining cash drawer; and keeping a clean concession stand area.
- Operates cash register; accepts payments and makes accurate change.
- Balances daily cash against the cash register tape at the end of assigned shift.
- Takes concession orders; prepares, stores and serves food in accordance with established health regulations; assists in maintaining order while individuals wait to purchase admissions and/or concessions.
- Operates various concession equipment, appliances and utensils; ensures that equipment and utensils are in proper working order.
- Assists with the cleaning of pool area and equipment as directed.
- Inspects and cleans concession stands, eating areas, bathhouse area, and pool area on a regular basis to maintain cleanliness and a hazard-free environment; performs various custodial duties such as sweeping, picking up trash, and sanitizing.
- Attends staff meetings and participates in employee training sessions as required.
- Assists with the responsibilities of being a water slide attendant.
Qualifications - Must be at least 14 years of age
- Experience in cash handling, including basic addition and subtraction
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize proper telephone etiquette
- Must be able to effectively communicate with the general public and pool staff
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Knowledge and Abilities - Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with customers and coworkers
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to follow all cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety practices
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate cash register and controls on food preparation machines
- Ability to see to select and to reach, bend, grab, and carry items
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to withstand long periods of standing
- Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions, especially heat and high humidity
