BIOLOGIST SUPERVISOR- WILDLIFE HABITAT STEWARDSHIP - FORESTRYThe incumbent provides assistance and support to the Forestry Program's Biologist Manager and Biologist Program Manager in performing all functions relative to the Department's WMA Forest Management Program. The scope of this position will focus on approximately 545,695 acres of forested WMA lands owned by the Department. The incumbent will maintain direct supervision over 3 Biologist 1/2/3 positions. Coordinates and conducts forest inventories for Desired Forest Condition for Wildlife (DFCW) evaluations, preparation of resource management prescriptions, and inventory work for timber appraisals on land acquisition projects. The incumbent will assess habitat and forest conditions on WMAs through knowledge of silvicultural practices, site historical management, forest species composition and associated research. Supervises, performs, and coordinates with the Biologist 1/2/3 positions to monitor timber sales and collect timber sale data required for record maintenance and sustainable forest initiative certification. Provides supervision of logging contractors during harvest operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Coordinates and performs duties involved with establishment and re-measurement of Growth Monitoring Plots (GMPs) on WMAs.
- Trains Forestry Program personnel and assistants participating in GMP establishment across the state.
- Assists Biologist Manager in establishing, monitoring/conducting research projects on WMAs to evaluate the effectiveness of the Forestry Program.
- Coordinate and perform forest health assessments on LDWF lands and as directed.
- Accurately complete time and attendance reporting.
- Learn agency practices, as well as new management techniques necessary for project delivery.
- Track progress on assigned tasks and provide updates to department staff.
