Job DescriptionThe Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Engineer III position in the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control.
This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on experience and the job level offered within the series. Job Description- Evaluation of waste embankment designs, work plans and reports.
- Evaluation of construction material specifications, testing, sampling, and QC/QA oversight.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Evaluation of civil engineering calculations and design drawings.
Best Qualified Candidate The best qualified candidate will have the following:
Minimum 5 years of experience (prefer 5-10 years) in the environmental engineering field including:
- Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geological engineering, or related civil engineering degree. Master's degree preferred.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
- Experience with field investigations including oversight of embankment construction; planning, performance, and analysis of construction material specifications and tests; and collection of construction material samples.
- Familiarity with a construction quality control and quality assurance procedures.
- Working knowledge of civil and geotechnical assessment and modeling methods and familiarity with the role that material properties play in regulatory compliance determination and contaminated site decision-making.
- Experience with conceptual site model development, numerical modeling of ground stability performance and analysis.
- Strong computer skills with experience in analytical and numerical modeling software.
Preferences- Bachelor's degree or higher in civil, environmental, or geological engineering, or related civil engineering degree.
- OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.
- Professional Engineer License from the State of Utah.
Job SeriesThe selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Engineer I with a salary range of $25.33 - $40.19, an Environmental Engineer II with a salary range of $29.82 - $47.30 per hour, or an Environmental Engineer III with a salary range of $33.23 - $52.69 per hour.
Work LocationThis position may be eligible for a hybrid/flexible work schedule after in-office training. Our office is located at 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason. Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
