Job DescriptionJob Title: Farm Bill Program Biologist IIJob Description:Become a Partner Biologist with the NRCS/DWR and take part in a significant mission to enhance wildlife habitats. In this role, you will join the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) team, collaborating with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to design and implement impactful habitat restoration projects. Through Farm Bill programs and other state funding avenues under the Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative (UWRI), you will help create a brighter future for our ecosystems.
You will work closely with NRCS staff and DWR biologists, developing and executing projects that invigorate ecosystem processes on private lands while supporting public land grazers. This position is vital for advancing DWR's vision of restoring Utah's watersheds and safeguarding the state's wildlife and natural landscapes for generations to come.

Responsibilities - Plan and implement wildlife habitat improvement and restoration projects
- Conduct habitat monitoring to ensure the success of implemented projects
- Work alongside NRCS staff and DWR biologists
- Write grant applications for project funding through the Farm Bill program and UWRI
- Monitor and manage contractors on habitat improvement projects
Qualifications REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range science, restoration ecology, natural resource management, or a closely related field, or equivalent directly related work experience.
- Ability to supervise interns, volunteers, and seasonal employees.
- Knowledge of research and monitoring principles and techniques, including sampling and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in using GIS programs and GPS tools.
- Ability to collect, compile, analyze, and summarize data for written and oral reports.
- Experience in planning and implementing habitat improvement projects, along with familiarity with agricultural practices and terminology. Experience in technical writing such as grant applications and proposals is also required.
PREFERRED:
- Master's degree in wildlife management, range science, restoration ecology, natural resource management, or a closely related field, or equivalent directly related work experience.
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements for various species, as well as the ability to identify different wildlife species, domestic animals, and plant species. Familiarity with rangelands and the implementation of rangeland projects is preferred.
- Awareness of state and federal environmental regulations.
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a natural resources field. Additional preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other applicable fields relevant to the position. Candidates with years of demonstrated successful full-time work experience will also be favored.
Supplemental Information Working conditions and physical requirements:
- Risks that require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
- Must be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles, ATVs, and transport trucks/trailers over unpaved roads.
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 60 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods.
- Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional overnight travel within Utah, and occasionally outside of the state, is required to attend meetings, conferences, support habitat management projects, etc.
- Non-standard work schedule is typical during the field season.
Other requirements:
- Pesticide Applicators License may be required after hire
- This is a full-time position, which occasionally requires irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and during emergencies.

- Occasional overnight travel within Utah, and occasionally outside of the state, is required to attend meetings, conferences, support habitat management projects, etc.

The beginning wage for this position will be between $23.96/hr and $27.91/hr for new employees. For existing state employees DHRM rules and agency/division policy will determine the starting salary.
