Position SummaryThe successful candidate will oversee environmental compliance, with direct responsibility for our fleet of gas-fired power generation facilities and other company operations in the US. This is a hands-on role that requires basic knowledge of environmental permitting and compliance programs with primary focus on water/wastewater and industrial waste regulatory programs, but air quality experience is also a huge plus. This position reports to the SVP of Compliance and directly accountable to the operations and maintenance (O&M) management team. Collaboration and engagement are also expected with Plant Managers / Superintendents, PROENERGY Services (PES) compliance team, WattBridge management team, and external customers. The job is in Houston, TX.
Position Responsibilities - Manage the environmental compliance program and its supporting policies, procedures, and monitoring platforms.
- Create and submit water and waste compliance reports and occasionally air quality reports, as required by applicable permits and regulations.
- Review and manage wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste permit applications and renewals.
- Manage compliance of wastewater discharge permits and industrial waste including sampling and reporting.
- Review and track required compliance obligations to ensure timely and accurate regulatory submittals.
- Support troubleshooting of emissions equipment and systems as needed.
- Train employees in environmental permits, plans, and compliance.
- Acts as an internal resource for environmental and safety incident investigations.
- Develop and implement EH&S plans, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, regional, and national laws and regulations.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of facility-specific environmental plans, such as SPCC, waste management programs, stormwater plants, etc.
- Support safety and other compliance audits.
- Experience working with Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHS)
Required Qualifications - BS degree in Engineering, science, or a related field.
- 5 to 15 years' experience in power plant environmental compliance, preferably in Texas.
- Ability to review and analyze environmental permit applications and plans.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills and an ability to present facts, conclusions, and recommendations in written communications, both in formal and informal formats
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task, ensuring compliance obligations are met.
- Strong oral communication skills are essential. Key point of contact for meeting with regulators during compliance visits. Must be able to deliver training material in a manner that is easily understood by participants.
- Travel in and around the Houston area and occasionally to other sites to support plant transition activities.
- US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
- Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
