A Cell Recycling Universal Waste Technician at Gigafactory 1 is responsible for material movement and support to the Cell Recycling Plant. As the Universal Waste Technician, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Operations and assist with daily production.
As a Tesla Gigafactory 1 Cell Recycling Universal Waste Technician, you will have the opportunity to drive Tesla toward closing the loop on battery recycling.
Responsibilities - Operate safety sensitive and heavy equipment such as forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, flatbed carts, and more
- Load and unload hazardous waste material onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts, balers, and/or load gratings
- Assemble crates and containers, and prepare materials for transport by palletizing, wrapping, loading, and moving and conduct inventory audits
- Provide emergency spill response/cleanup and perform decontamination of equipment
- Perform breakdown/processing and packaging of universal waste streams such as battery packs, modules, and cells
- Follow safety guidelines & procedures and report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to Supervisor or area lead
- Report any equipment damages or repairs needed to repair shop and Supervisor or area lead and have a punctuality and a professional, can-do attitude are a must
Requirements - Required to work with and around hazardous areas and hazardous chemicals and confined spaces
- Experience with chemical handling and water distribution is desired
- Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
- Multitasks and adapts to constant change and has basic mechanical aptitude
- Lift at least 50-75 lbs on a regular basis, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, and climb ladders/stairs, Work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms
- Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts and carts
Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day including but not limited to:
- Ability to work outside in the elements ranging from -10F up to 110F in the wind, rain, and snow
- Lift, push and carry up to 30 lbs. for up to 20 feet in distance frequently and repetitively,
- Bend, lift and reach frequently and repetitively stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, hardhat, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
- Ability to wear a full-face air-purifying respirator while performing mildly or moderately exertional tasks for 4 consecutive hours, up to 12 hours per day
- Open to schedule flexibility that will allow for a variety of shifts, including days, nights, or weekends as needed
