Tesla's Energy Reliability Engineering team is looking for a highly motivated Reliability Technician to join our mission of advancing energy products and systems. As part of the team, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability for our solar energy products. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with Test Engineers to validate, iterate, and refine our solar technologies. As a Solar Reliability Technician, you will be deeply involved in testing and improving Tesla's cutting-edge solar products. You will also work in close collaboration with engineering teams to solve complex issues, enhance designs, and push the boundaries of functionality and reliability. Your work will have a direct impact on the future of clean energy, and your ability to adapt to fast-paced environments and thrive amidst ambiguity will be critical. Excellent communication, team collaboration, and a proactive mindset are essential.
Responsibilities - Instrument, test, and evaluate solar prototypes, including data acquisition and analysis
- Design and fabricate new test equipment and improve existing test fixtures
- Ensure a high standard of safety and organization in the solar reliability lab
- Maintain and operate advanced Environmental Test Chambers to simulate conditions for solar products
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, reliability, and integration) to troubleshoot and resolve product issues
- Integrate solar systems, including electrical connections (AC/DC high and low voltages), structural components
- Document test procedures, results, and issues thoroughly, ensuring accuracy and clarity
- Communicate technical questions, findings, and solutions effectively to team members and leadership
- Troubleshoot test setup errors and system failures to identify root causes and solutions
- Travel to support lab expansions and facilities in Fremont, Gigafactories, and future locations as needed
Requirements - Strong mechanical fabrication skills, including experience with machine shop/wood shop tools, hand tools, and power tools
- Expertise in disassembling and reassembling electromechanical systems independently
- Experience with standard electronics lab tools such as multimeters, data acquisition equipment, and power supplies
- Proficiency in wiring and electrical systems, including soldering, crimping, and following wiring diagrams
- Solid understanding of physics, electrical engineering principles, and solar technologies
- Ability to approach problems creatively and systematically, using strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of tasks, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and manage time effectively
- Excellent written documentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
- Experience working with environmental chambers and other testing equipment
- A passion for renewable energy, specifically solar, and a commitment to the success of Tesla's energy systems

$24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
