What's the Opportunity?Anchor QEA is seeking a senior-level, entrepreneurially minded biologist to help expand the presence of our Environmental Restoration Practice to better capture growing opportunities in the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. We are particularly interested in an individual who has experience in identifying, planning, designing and implementing ecosystem restoration, sediment beneficial use, and surface water nutrient reduction projects and programs. The successful candidate will support our team of scientists, engineers, biologists, and planners in the growth of Anchor QEA and will help to build, oversee, and mentor project teams in the Midwest region. They will be responsible for developing new clients, winning and executing work, and growing our experience with federal, state, and local clients. Responsibilities:The successful applicant has previous experience in building an ecosystem restoration practice, including services related to beneficial use of dredged sediment, agal nutrient reduction, and habitat restoration and nature-based solutions in riverine, lake, and coastal environment. They should have a demonstrated track record of collaboration with others and their own creativity, experience, insight and entrepreneurial spirit. Core responsibilities include project execution (70%) and business development (30%):
Project Execution
- Leading comprehensive scope development, fee negotiations, project schedule and deliverable milestones development, technical and financial project management activities, client and stakeholder coordination, project implementation, and subcontractor administration.
- Planning, performing, and managing technical analyses for ecosystem restoration, sediment management, and surface water nutrient reduction projects.
- Contributing to design plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates for restoration projects with oversight from an engineer.
- Providing mentorship, technical oversight and quality reviews on ecosystem restoration, sediment management, and surface water nutrient reduction projects
- Providing active mentorship and oversight of junior and mid-level staff
Business Development
- Working directly with federal, state, local agencies; non-governmental organizations (NGOs); and other organizations to identify, plan, and execute ecosystem restoration and surface water nutrient reduction projects that restore natural systems and habitat.
- Positioning for and winning multi-disciplinary projects and/or programs with a focus on sustainable habitat and ecological restoration solutions, water quality and climate resilience, either as part of a larger team or as the prime contractor
- Knowledge of existing and potential clients in the region, and ability to leverage existing relationships
- Developing new clients, identify project opportunities, lead proposal efforts, and capture new work
- Identifying strategic teaming partners and actively building relationships, helping to identify and support staff resource and hiring needs
What Are We Looking For? Ideal candidates will have the following:
- Proven ability to generate new business over their career and grow an ecosystem restoration practice with a focus on federal, state, and local clients
- Ecosystem (e.g., wetland, riparian buffers, rivers, streams) restoration design experience including river restoration, beneficial reuse of dredged sediment, nature-based solutions, estuary and beach intertidal/backshore restoration, and compensatory mitigation
- Surface water nutrient reduction technical analyses, approaches and project implementation experience in lake environments
- Strong leadership skills
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree (preferred) in biology, ecology, or restoration related field
- 10+ years of relevant experience in ecosystem restoration planning and/or design, project management, staff management, and sales
- Proven experience in building partnerships with federal, state, and local clients along with NGOs
- Self-motivation, drive, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to maximize successful project outcomes
