Job SummaryContinental Resources is seeking an experienced Senior Staff New Ventures Geoscientist with a strong background in geology, geophysics, and petroleum systems analysis to drive new exploration opportunities and strategic asset development. This role requires a proven track record in prospect generation, play fairway analysis, and basin-scale evaluations in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying new venture opportunities, integrating multi-disciplinary data, and applying advanced geotechnical techniques to de-risk and evaluate emerging plays. They will be responsible for delivering high-quality exploration prospects, leading technical evaluations, and influencing strategic decision-making.
This position requires a high level of technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and strong leadership in mentoring junior geoscientists while collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead the identification and evaluation of new venture opportunities, integrating geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and geochemical data to define and de-risk high-potential exploration plays.
- Apply petroleum systems analysis to assess trap, reservoir, seal, and charge risk for new exploration prospects and play extensions.
- Utilize seismic interpretation, well log analysis, geospatial mapping, and advanced subsurface modeling to generate and refine regional play fairways and high-graded prospects.
- Develop and execute basin and play-scale assessments, incorporating sequence stratigraphy, structural geology, geochemistry, and reservoir characterization to evaluate hydrocarbon potential.
- Collaborate with geoscientists, engineers, petrophysicists, and land/commercial teams to assess strategic opportunities and emerging plays, developing a portfolio of investment-ready exploration projects.
- Leverage cutting-edge geotechnical software and workflows to integrate seismic, gravity, magnetics, and geochemical datasets for enhanced subsurface imaging and interpretation.
- Effectively communicate technical findings and strategic recommendations through compelling oral presentations, technical reports, and management briefings.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior geoscientists, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation.
- Drive the planning, execution, and evaluation of exploration wells, ensuring robust data acquisition and interpretation strategies to optimize decision-making.
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and emerging plays, incorporating best practices into exploration workflows.

- Unconventional & Conventional Play Analysis - Reservoir quality assessment, sweet spot identification, well performance forecasting.
- Opportunity Identification & Risk Assessment - Ability to synthesize diverse datasets to de-risk new ventures.
- Data Integration & Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration - Strong ability to work across geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and engineering disciplines.
- Decision-Making & Financial Acumen - Understanding economic drivers and making data-driven recommendations for exploration investment.
- Effective Communication & Stakeholder Engagement - Ability to articulate technical concepts to executives, technical teams, and external partners.
- Mentorship & Leadership - Guiding less-experienced geoscientists and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Required Qualifications- Master's Degree or Doctorate Degree in Geoscience or Earth Sciences from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of exploration experience with a strong focus on new ventures, play fairway analysis, and petroleum systems evaluation.
- Expertise in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs, with a track record of successful prospect generation and play development.
- An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
