Job DescriptionAccountable for the development and direct supervision of team members. Responsible for monitoring daily staffing levels, so that completion of all Environmental Services/Housekeeping operational tasks are accomplished according to standard and infection control practice. Supports the Environmental Services Manager by continually identifying and assisting with the implementation of improvement initiatives, while remaining compliant with departmental budget. Directs staff and helps resolve technical, operational and interpersonal problems so that the hospital functions optimally without interruption.
Responsibilities - Creates weekly staffing schedule. Monitors attendance on a daily basis.
- Utilizes resources to achieve department goals and to ensure expenses are maintained within specified budgeted parameters.
- Manages department work flow using the ISISPRO Bed Management and Corrective Work Order System.
- Collaborates with manager to ensure compliance of operating unit with hospital policies, as well as with regulations of Joint Commission, State, Federal and other regulatory bodies.
- Provides input to department staffing plans to ensure patient safety and most efficient use of resources are achieved.
- Collaborates with Manager for adherence to standardized operational procedures.
- Participates in institution wide committees as necessary.
- Ensures quality outcomes and continuous improvement of work processes. Assists Environmental Services Manager with all aspects associated to the Daily Management System.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific population from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interaction with patients/families.
- Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC STANDARDS.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervises and plans the work of four Leads and 30+ full time equivalent Environmental Services staff to continuously improve the environment and services provided by employees for all customers.
- Participates for the recruitment, selection, orientation/training and mentoring staff. Checks the work of others, maintaining workflow status, tracking employee time on the Kronos timekeeping system.
- Provides ongoing feedback and coaching to staff relative to their performance plan. Perform performance evaluation of team members. Provide Coaching, Performance Discussions, Performance Improvement Plans and Terminations as required.
- Evaluates staffing availability and schedules/adjusts work assignments plans work assignments accordingly. Evaluates resource gaps and creates action plans to bridge gaps to ensure a clean and safe environment is maintained for patients, families, visitors and employees.
- Reviews, collects, inputs and distributes data in a timely manner to ensure accurate and updated records. Maintains "area" work schedules" and monitors work assignments and management of work orders utilizing the Bed Management and CMMS work order systems.
- Facilitates teamwork amongst department staff and hospital departments (customers) to help ensure a seamless service is accomplished.
- Ensures project initiatives are appropriately planned, and communicated to customers and all necessary collaborative steps are taken to minimize disruption for clinical staff is achieved while work is being performed.
- Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other leaders.
- Monitors waste removal processes that includes, but may not be limited to hazardous, solid, RCRA and recycling waste streams.
- Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and the organizational plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager.
QualificationsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREDEducation Required: High School diploma or GED required.
Experience Required: Minimum three years of experience in a leadership role, preferable in environmental services setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREKNOWLEDGE OF:
- Understand Environmental Services standards of operation as they relate to infection control principals, equipment utilization, and floor restoration procedures.
- Understands departmental expenses such as supply need and labor costs to maintain budget conditions
SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively.
- Listening, organizational and computer skills.
- Ability to apply elementary math functions. Ability to work with mathematical probability and statistics desired.
- Leadership and effective management abilities
- Basic computer literacy skills, Microsoft Outlook, Internet navigation ability, Word and Excel

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written or oral instructions.
