Education Requirements:- Junior, Senior, or Graduate level student majoring in Geomorphology, Stream Restoration, Biology, Ecology, Watershed Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a related field with the desired knowledge and interests.
Experience Requirements- Proficient in software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Preferred experience with data assessment, research, and project synthesis.
- Preferred report or data visualization development
License Requirements:- Current Colorado driver's license "R", with a satisfactory driving record required. [If driving is required]
Pre-Employment Requirements:- A background check including education and criminal history.
- A motor vehicle background check.
- A pre-placement clinic appointment which may include a physical, drug and alcohol test, strength test, and worker's compensation background test.

Internship Project Description:This intern will join the Watershed Planning team within the Water Resource Strategy division. The Watershed Planning Program is Denver Water's source water protection program working to protect and improve Denver Water's 2.5-million-acre network of collection system watersheds. The internship will support the Strontia Springs Watershed Sediment Management Program (Strontia WSMP) but will also provide the opportunity to cross-train and learn about other Denver Water section and division tasks.
Several low-tech process-based restoration (LT-PBR) projects within the Strontia WSMP were constructed fall 2023 with one-year post-construction monitoring reports received in the last month. Other projects, including those that are not low-tech, are in different phases of development from feasibility assessment to near-construction. This internship will support all aspects of the program and will mostly be work in an office setting, with some field days. Primary responsibilities are:
- Work with the Denver Water Project Manager to track, assess, and communicate updates and details of projects and the overall program to internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify methodology and complete assessments for cost-benefit analysis of projects and the program.
- Update and develop project summary language within our ESRI-based Experience Builder communications tool.
- Organize project materials (administrative documents and contracts, reports, photos, etc) and create protocols for consistency in future projects.
- Research monitoring and modeling options to benefit the future of the program.
- This intern will also partner with the Watershed Planning Water Quality Intern on field days to Williams Fork Reservoir (~2 days/month).
- Other tasks as assigned, which may include attending stakeholder meetings, coordinating meetings with internal and external partners, and other non-sediment program work within Watershed Planning where support is needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project:- Some knowledge of sediment transport, process-based restoration, stream restoration, geomorphology, hydrology or similar area of interest.
- Desire to work in field and office settings.
- Ability/desire to work independently
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Familiarity with importance and adherence to quality control and quality assurance practices
- Good communications skills
About Denver WaterDuring the Summer Intern Program, there are THREE (3) REQUIRED ATTENDANCE EVENTS. All interns must participate.Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
