Description This position will be open until filled. Applications are being reviewed as they are received. Responsible for development and implementation of a well-rounded Aquatics program; as well as assisting the Aquatics Manager and/or Recreation Administrator in the overall operation of the Westerville Community Center pool and Highlands Pool.
SUPERVISION Work is performed under the direction of the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatic Supervisor. Supervises regular part-time, part-time temporary, contractual employees and independent contractual program leaders and instructors in the Aquatics area. Assures that assigned programs and facilities are adequately planned for the maximum safety and benefit to the community at large. Exercises initiative and professional judgment in the performance of duties. Work is reviewed through periodic meetings; review of reports and for compliance with policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK (May not include all duties performed.)
Trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates managers, lifeguards and pool staff.
Develops and schedules instruction programs for all levels of ability.
Trains, develops, guides and evaluates the instructional and seasonal staff including assisting with selection and recruitment of new staff.
May be responsible for managing the operations of the Highlands Pool front desk and concession operations.
Communicates with the American Red Cross regarding all special program needs.
Assists the Aquatics Staff in preparing information for the Brochure.
Schedules seasonal staff to ensure safe supervision of all public swim times and rentals.
Assists in the operations and physical maintenance of the mechanical and filtration systems of the Community Center pool and Highlands.
Assists in the supervision of day-to-day operations ensuring that all necessary money handling and paperwork is completed by staff (daily receipts, time cards, accident reports, readings, sign-in sheets, checklists, etc.)
Assists in the coordination of and must be present for all in-service trainings.
Submits required monthly and seasonal performance measures and attendance records for various reports.
Ensures public safety and cleanliness of facilities.
Monitors registration and attendance of classes and programs; assesses feasibility and public interest; cancels classes and programs, as need; submits reports on programs and activities.
Works with the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Supervisor on group or individual projects.
Informs the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Supervisor of any suggested policy changes, public criticisms and compliments.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Must be at least 18 years of age.
Three years experience in aquatic facility operations or any combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
Must have an extensive background in swim lessons and pool operations.
Possess current certifications for Lifeguard and/or Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Preferred certifications for Lifeguard/Instructor Training (LG/LGI), Aquatic Facility Operator and Certified Pool/Spa Operator (AFO/CPO.)
Must be a team player with strong initiative, have an enthusiastic approach to management and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, community members, contractors, other agencies and the public.
City pays portion of OPERS Retirement Contribution.
