Landscape Architect - Facilities & ServicesFacilities & Services - Capital ProgramsJob SummaryThe Landscape Architect, Project Planning, has primary responsibility for master planning, site planning, project planning at all levels, from project definition through design, landscape architecture, facility demolitions and professional responsibilities as assigned. The Landscape Architect, Project Planning, will also be responsible for assisting in the evaluation and establishment of campus standards for project definition, planning, design, and methods of project delivery. This position also serves in the role of Campus Landscape Architect for the Urbana-Champaign campus.
Duties & Responsibilities- Participates in master planning efforts
- Participates in site selection, utilization policies and procedures
- Participates in establishing the objectives for development and maintenance of campus landscapes
- Assists the campus clients (colleges, departments, etc.) in determining the needs for new projects, renovations, or site work projects.
- Coordinates scope of work and program statements for such projects based on client and campus needs.
- Coordinates and determines the scope, feasibility, or conceptualization of such projects.
- Determines, compiles, and reconciles project budgets with input from all pertinent parties for such projects as demolition projects and new landscape designs.

- Participates in and coordinates the design of landscapes and site plans with interns, extra help, and Landscape Architecture staff.
- Assists F&S Engineering with document submittal reviews and developing design standards as they relate to all site items.
- Provides design assistance and interpretation to the clients to help them understand design drawings.
- Acts as a consultant to Project Management for landscape design issues throughout the duration of the project.
- Conducts field inspections and provides supervision for layout and quality of site construction and landscape improvements.
- Coordinates with the supervisory personnel on the Grounds Maintenance Crews by advising on minor improvements, replacements, and maintenance practices.
- Assists in the preparation of the scope of professional services required for each project
- Attends planning meetings as the campus representative on assigned projects through Design Development.
- Develops periodic status reports for assigned projects
- Provides support for written, graphic, and computer presentation materials for various members of the Planning Department staff.
- Member of the Architectural Review Committee, reviews proposed visual/physical changes to campus.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture.
- Current Professional Registration as a Landscape Architect in the state of Illinois or the ability to be registered within 6 months of hire.
- 10 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in landscape architecture and facility planning and management.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Landscape Architecture.
- 5 or more years working on a campus of higher education.
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation.
- Experience with campus construction contracts.
- Experience supervising landscape staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Ability to communicate well, delegate and coordinate the work of support staff.
- Ability to negotiate solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to develop priorities for self and others.
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting and facilities management systems.
Appointment InformationThis is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 per year. Final salary offeredwill be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internalsalary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, relevant collectivebargaining agreements, and/or budget constraints.
