This OpportunityWSP is looking for an
Early Career Hydrotechnical or Water Resource Engineer for modeling and assessments in our
Wexford, PA office. The modeling and assessment may include hydrologic, hydraulic, fluvial geomorphic, and sediment transport analyses. Mitigation design will include controlling scour and lateral migration through technical engineering design for the stream, riverine, and floodplain environment. The candidate must be comfortable with the use of technology in the practice of water resource modeling. This position will include opportunities on a variety of projects such as linear alignments for pipelines, transportation corridors, and infrastructure siting. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated education or field experience in water resource modelling. This entry-level position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on hydrotechnical, geological, civil, and geotechnical engineering projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and outdoor "hands-on" activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, solve problems, and provide proactive communication.
Your Impact - Complete hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using spreadsheet-based tools, and/or software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS programs, or other 2D hydrodynamic modeling tools (i.e., HEC-RAS 2D, TUFLOW, etc.).
- Assess open-channel and floodplain erosion and scour processes and develop mitigation strategies such as scour countermeasures considering environment and natural design (i.e., fish passage, habitat, etc.).
- Assess geomorphic and sediment transport processes.
- Complete basin or site-scale water balance and water supply assessments
- Design storm drain, culverts, open channels, and diversions.
- Collect a range of field data, including from riverine and GIS data; interpret observed conditions, and prepare field notes.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements and analysis.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
- Comply with safety guidelines and client/site-specific procedures which may include safely plans, PPE, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology.
- 0-1 years of relevant experience.
- Computer skills and coursework or experience with computer software including Microsoft Office and basic data management applications.
- Possess competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a professional and non-professional audience.
- Ability to be comfortable in remote settings and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment.
- Local and potential national travel (up to 50% of the time) with possible opportunities for long-term assignments at project sites.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology.
- Research skills with analytical mindset.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
