The Public Works department and the Planning and Development department are seeking a Landscape Architect each.

This is professional landscape architectural work, which includes analysis, planning, design, preparation of contract documents, design review and monitoring of construction projects in accordance with principles and practices of landscape architecture, project requirements, and City ordinance. Work requires a knowledge of the theories principles and practices of landscape design, construction, and maintenance, Florida plants, tree protection, hardscape design, streetscapes, and site planning gained through a combination of education and experience. May assign, monitor, and oversee the work of assigned personnel. Work requires skills in understanding and influencing others to obtain desired results, to coordinate activities, and to resolve complaints. The work is covered by clearly defined policies and involves a variety of situations requiring use of judgment. The work is performed in an office and field environment. Operates motor vehicles, standard office equipment, and computer software. The physical demands are minimal. The work is performed under administrative direction where the work is reviewed in terms of feasibility and compatibility with other projects and effectiveness in meeting required results.
Examples of Work - Plans, designs, and supervises landscape maintenance program for City buildings, facilities, and rights-of way.
- Reviews residential, commercial and industrial landscape drawings, plans and site development designs for compliance with landscape ordinances.
- Assigns, monitors, and oversees the work of assigned personnel.
- Coordinates design services provided by consultants for City landscape architecture and site planning projects.
- Conducts field inspections of construction projects for landscaping and irrigation.
- Reviews and prepares drawings for site clearing, tree protection and removal, landscaping, hardscapes, and other site development.
- Reviews site drawings and calculations related to landscaping, tree protection, signs and site development regulations.
- Consults with architects, engineers, contractors, and the general public concerning site development, landscaping. tree protection, plans, codes, and ordinances.
- Prepares and issues reports, correspondence, and procedures.
- Prepares professional service contracts and construction inspection reports.
- Determines code violations and assists in prosecution of violators.
- Prepares and reviews fee proposals for project coordination, site planning and landscape architect services requested for public facilities.
- Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for enforcement of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer using word processing, excel, database and various permit related software.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of landscape architecture and site design.
- Knowledge of landscaping, tree protection and site development codes, and ordinances.
- Knowledge of civil and landscape drafting techniques, and computation methods, procedures, and terminology.
- Knowledge of landscape electrical and irrigation requirements
- Knowledge of design software including AutoCAD, Adobe CS, ArcGIS and MS Office.
- Knowledge of plants related to USDA Zones 8b-9b, and familiarity with Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants.
- Knowledge of Florida Building Codes related to site development, including ADA requirements.
- Skills in problem solving, analysis, and creativity.
- Ability to review and prepare landscape and site development design drawings, and construction documents.
- Ability to provide construction oversite and write inspection reports.
- Ability to operate personal computersusing word processing, spreadsheet, database and other related software, engineering scales, distance measuring devicesand otherstandard office equipment.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information- Completion of a professional degree program in landscape architecture accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) Plus three (3) years of approved practical experience OR;
- Seven (7) years of practical experience acceptable to the City and the Florida Board of Landscape Architecture.
- Each year (2000 hours) of practical experience must be obtained under the direct supervision of a licensed landscape architect.
- Currently hold a Florida Landscape Architect license or must obtain Florida license within one (1) year of appointment.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: - A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.
- Must qualify for a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver prior to appointment, and then obtain and maintain certificate during employment.
- A State of Florida Registered Landscape Architect license that must be maintained during employment.
- If applicant is not currently registered as a professional Landscape Architect in the State of Florida, but is qualified to take the license examination, the applicant must apply to The Florida Board of Landscape Architecture to take the examination within 30 days of appointment, obtain acceptance to take the examination within six (6) months of appointment, and, finally, to pass the examination and obtain a Landscape Architect license within one (1) year of appointment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - The probationary period for this class is six months.
