Description Burns & McDonnell, an industry-leading employee-owned engineering, consulting, and construction company, has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Preconstruction Engineer to lead solar design efforts and proposals and facilitate seamless integration between engineering and construction in our growing Solar Power market in the Energy (ENR) Global Practice in our Kansas City, MO office!
- This individual shall be experienced in and familiar with electrical design on solar projects. The individual shall be experienced in the following design activities, as they constitute the specific activities related to solar projects and pursuits.
- Reviewing customer specifications/requirements and communicating specific requirements to the project team.
- Design layouts to meet customer requirements, optimize performance, and reduce cost. Provide Bill of Quantities (BOQ) to estimating and review with the construction team.
- Developing procurement specifications for major equipment, including, but not limited to, solar modules, trackers, racking piles, inverters, transformers, SCADA, cable, cable management systems, etc.
- Participate in the evaluation of bid tabs for solar equipment to facilitate the selection of the proper solar equipment and materials.
- Organizing and optimizing equipment and material quantities and communicating with the estimating and construction teams.
- Communicating with environmental, civil, and structural teams to ensure a cohesive and optimal design.
- Assist with all required permitting efforts associated with the potential and current projects.
- Estimate engineering hours and efforts associated with potential projects.
- Communicate with customers and assemble presentations for potential customers during pursuit phases of projects.
Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering a plus.
- 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
- Experience performing electrical design activities on solar projects.
- Experience coordinating with solar equipment suppliers, solar contractors, and customers preferred.
- Must have the ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Must have ability to manage and lead multiple projects/proposals and prioritize tasks to meet project and proposal requirements.
- Experience working and coordinating with foreign workforces a plus.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
- Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
- Professional Engineer License is required.
- Ability to travel is required. Anticipated travel is 25% to 50%.
