PURPOSE:The Micro Metrology & Chemical Cleaning Engineer performs functions associated with leading edge laser drilled micro hole measurement & associated chemical cleaning processes on internally drilled ceramic substrates. In general, the scope of ownership includes equipment function / management, product process development for NPI as well as continuous improvement on existing products, driving capacity / capability solution paths and developing / improving manufacturing efficiency & throughput. We are seeking a tech-savvy engineer with individual contributor and team level contributions who can apply their education and past experience to solve new problems.
The successful candidate will want to gain an understanding of the existing process capability, draw from their experience to take our chemical cleaning & metrology processes to the next level and address bleeding edge challenges to keep up with industry requirements for laser drilling of advanced vertical probe card applications.
This role requires advanced technical knowledge of chemical applications, automated Optical measurement and will be responsible for the research, development and implementation of all aspects of reducing measurement time & retest.
This position is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (on-site in Livermore) and will report directly to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Partner with the existing process owners to learn the existing substrate chemical debond / cleaning & micro hole metrology processes and take ownership in their existing format, which includes analysis and decisions for NCR dispositions/OCAPs, vendor management when measurement improvement is needed, annual calibrations, GR&R analysis, etc.
- Explore opportunities to improve chemical cleaning processes and ultimately reduce retest time associated with contamination or other measurement impactors. This may include updating the chemistry used, fixturing methods, chemical PM's & Monitors, etc.
- Look for opportunities to improve chemical debond processes to ensure capacity, capability & safety.
- Look for opportunities to improve optical micro metrology systems, measurement & retest cycle time reduction, post measurement analysis & data packages required for CoC certification of our product to customers.
- Enhance or establish quality controls, yield tracking, tool health & process KPIs to ensure feedback to our laser drilling process supports corrective actions to meet the requirements of current and future products.
- Own process documentation & training including production work instructions, engineering work instructions, visual defect criteria and training of production technicians, engineering technicians & peers.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering activity by recognizing, prioritizing & acting on improvement opportunities, pioneering new ideas and finding innovative methods to accomplish goals.
- Submit IT tasks and partner with web app developers to update & modify factory MES system interface to process equipment that may streamline processes, improve part tracking/data collection and possibly automate recipe management.
- Development & solution seeking to meet chemical debond & cleaning and measurement requirements of new laser drilling processes, which may include capability validation, Capital equipment procurement & commissioning.
- Project manage & participate in fleet expansion as we continue to grow our business & tighten our tolerances.
- Able to coordinate with equipment vendors to seek debug support, plan upgrades, solve issues or new equipment acquisitions as required.
- Drive the coordination to set-up maintenance & CIP of process equipment based on Key Performance Indicators.
- Partner with product development & production teams, employ long lasting repairs and communicate status and recovery plans throughout the issue resolution process.
- Develop and systematize methods to track & troubleshoot production issues, perform failure analysis, and drive long term resolutions.
- Collaborate with upstream and downstream process owners and other internal teams to perform any root cause analysis, process improvement and technical development.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED: - BS or MS in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Material Science engineering + 5-7 years of equivalent experience in Semiconductor or equivalent technology equipment engineering.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills as related to manufacturing issues.
- Able to work with limited supervision, is self-directed, and has a methodical approach to solving technical problems.
- 2+ years of progressive experience as Manufacturing Process Engineer, Quality or Metrology Engineer, or related experience.
- Experience in use of Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments; quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA & pFMEA), Root-cause Analysis (RCA), and/or Lean Manufacturing, 5's, 8D, corrective actions.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, protective glasses, face shields, aprons, rubber boots, etc.
- Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets and the associated chemical hazards and storage needs.
- Familiarity with mechanical machined parts, CAD component & assembly drawings.
- Able to use hierarchy BOM structure to understand products or determine parts required for equipment repair or upgrades.
- Have solid computer skills on a variety of windows versions or equipment interfaces.
- Software experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point; Excel Macros, AutoCAD, JMP or other large data analysis tools (MySQL are a Plus).
- Use hand tools including wrenches, dial indicators, calipers, thermal measurement devices & standards, chemical maintenance measurement and other various equipment technology specific to chemical cleaning or micro metrology equipment.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written in English.
- Familiarity with clean room procedures and protocols.
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Occasionally sitting, standing and working in a clean room environment for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day.

- Able to work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol/requirements.

The pay range for this role in Livermore, CA is between $136,200 and $178,815. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
