Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager (SHE) Manager uses their strong leadership and communication skills to support their site's (and overall company's) goal of being in the top 10% in Total Recordable Rate (TRR) in our industry and having zero environmental exceptions. The main responsibilities of the SHE Manager is to plan, direct and implement site safety, environmental, health, fire and security programs to ensure a safe, healthy, compliant and accident-free work environment and to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA, EPA and other rules and regulations on a nominal 500-person chemical manufacturing site.
This position will be a member of the site leadership staff and requires the person to maintain visibility by frequently being in the manufacturing areas interfacing with employees of all levels. This person must be able to work with all levels of the organization to ensure proper safety and environmental management and awareness at the site.
Responsibilities The
SHE Manager will be reportable to the
Site Director with a dotted line to the Global Safety, Health, and Environmental Director and have responsibilities for the following tasks:
- Have a broad understanding of all pertinent SHE regulations.
- Manage the site SHE staff.
- Communicate internally and within the community
- Manage SHE cost within agreed upon budget.
- Manage safety and health programs within the site. Cultivate a positive and proactive safety culture.
- Manage environmental compliance programs
- Lead the development, maintenance, training, and implementation of SHE policies consistent with regulations and corporate guidance including the development of appropriate procedures where necessary.
- Manage environmental processes with discharges to air, soil, and water within the site
- Report and investigate SHE incidents thoroughly and in a timely manner. Effectively communicate findings and coordinate the completion of corrective actions identified during the investigation.
- Ensure timely safety, health and environmental technical support from the SHE group to the site operation. This support will be provided in the areas of technical knowhow, regulatory compliance, compliance reporting, testing, SHE data management, and communications with applicable regulatory agencies.
- Manage SHE records and documentation.
- Manage security program to protect site assets within normal Alpek Polyester standards including badging, site entry requirements and theft control.
- Work with procurement to assure purchases are consistent with site SHE requirements (i.e., new chemicals, waste minimization, required permits are obtained).
- Audit, analyze, and report safety and environmental performance. Coordinate corrective action when required by audit findings.
- Oversee emergency response management and the site emergency response team.
Skills & Qualifications - BA or BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety, Loss Prevention, Occupational Safety or other related field.
- 5-10 years' experience in the safety / accident prevention field in an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and accident investigation methodology.
- Knowledge of Title V and NPDES a plus
- Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing company is desired
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite skills
