About the opportunitySWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an
Assistant Project Biologist with experience in natural resource management and biological studies for our Houston, Texas office. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop or continue a long-term consulting career that combines high-level technical expertise, strong writing skills, business acumen and the potential for leadership. Responsibilities may include managing projects, writing technical reports, participating in field surveys, natural resource planning, and coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team. It is anticipated that low to moderate travel will be required for the position.
This is an hourly, Full-time (with benefits), non-exempt position, reporting to the office's Natural Resources Team Lead. Hybrid work environments are available.

What you will accomplish- Work closely with SWCA project managers and clients to successfully design and oversee projects to completion.
- Help implement project requirements related to National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and other natural resource planning/permitting disciplines.
- Write and review environmental documents prepared by yourself and other SWCA environmental specialists.
- Provide advice and guidance on complex federal, state and local regulatory issues.
- Help prepare budgets and proposals, conduct business development and client outreach ensuring that project quality, scheduling, and budget objectives are met.
- Take the initiative, resolve problems, and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.
Experience and qualifications for successRequired
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field
- USFWS permit for Houston Toad survey and handling.
- Minimum 3 years of related environmental consulting experience
- Understanding of environmental regulations
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to take a logical approach to tasks.
- Robust organizational, analytical, and document management skills with the ability to work on more than one project at a time, often meeting tight deadlines.
- Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.
Preferred:
- Prior planning, budgeting, scheduling experience
- Ability to grow into increased management and leadership responsibilities
- Understanding and work experience with a major Federal Government Agency that works on natural resources issues

An employee in this Houston based position can expect an hourly wage of $27.56/hour-$35.96/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
