Horticulturist to join its
Greenspace Division team.
This position is responsible for:
- The instruction on matters and problems concerning horticulture and floriculture.
- Performs horticultural duties such as planting, pruning, fertilization and other tasks needed for general care and maintenance of planting areas.
- Recommends utilization of proper pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers to field personnel.
- Keeps records on inventory, scheduling and routine maintenance in relation to plantings.
- Maintains and cleans equipment and tools. Performs other duties as requested.
- Weekend work will occur as requested on a rotational basis, with occasional holidays as well.
- Requires traveling to various locations to perform duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions. The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associate's degree in Horticulture or a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSTwo years of experience in horticultural or nursery operations are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSValid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston Motor Vehicle Assignment and Use Policy (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES PREFERENCES- Greenhouse Management experience
- Texas Department of Agriculture Applicator License
- Structural Pest Control Board Certified Applicator License
