HDR is seeking an Environmental Section Manager / Sr. Project Manager to join our Environmental group in Kansas City, MO. In this position, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise, primarily in our Transportation Business Group, and leading an environmental team in Missouri and Kansas. Specifically, you will work with senior management to develop business, manage and deliver projects, develop and manage staff, and respond to client needs.
Project Management will include establishing the sequencing of environmental tasks/projects, from financial management of the project through successful completion (managing scope, schedule and budget) of the project using HDR's technology, standards, and project delivery practices. Technical work product input will include the preparation, planning, development, and/or analysis/review of technical studies that meet requirements of state agencies and NEPA documents; federal and state permit applications; and similar reports/documents. Work will be accomplished independently and through coordinating or supervising small to large technical and professional teams from local offices. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of transportation projects within the highway, transit, and/or rail market sectors, and technical expertise regarding agency processes, environmental procedures, and expectations.
In this role, we'll count on you to:
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Kansas City area Environmental team. This includes taking responsibility for staff development, morale, quality control, profitability and marketing support. It also includes coordinating with other HDR teams and prioritizing projects and staffing to meet scope, schedule, and budget commitments.
- Function as a Project Manager and/or Task Manager, taking responsibility for technical requirements and production, budget, schedule, and client communications. You would plan, organize, control, and evaluate work through HDR's proactive project management system.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to staff, leading report preparation, and providing quality control reviews.
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.This includes coordination with other managers on project staffing, scope, schedules, and budgets.
- Work cooperatively with marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts, to include planning, proposals, and interviews.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in environmental planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in task management / project management, including management of scope, schedule, and budgets.
- Experience leading environmental tasks as part of other small, medium, and large/complex engineering and planning projects.
- Preference given to local candidates. Experience in Missouri and/or Kansas strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing and mentoring biologists / environmental scientists.
- Experience in developing plans, writing proposals, developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for environmental projects with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency efforts.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
