Department Summary: MITRE’s newly established Commerce division is responsible for leading the U.S. Department of Commerce work program through the Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM) Federally Funded Research & Development Center (FFRDC). The new division is establishing three new departments that will be responsible for partnering with the U.S. Department of Commerce to build a stronger, more resilient U.S. economy: Federal Statistics, Data Science and Integration Department Oceans and Atmosphere Department Trade, Technology and Standards Department The departments will be responsible for deeply understanding the priorities of the Department of Commerce and its component bureaus’ missions (e.g., NIST, NTIA, ITA, BISC) and developing system engineering solutions and data analytic related capabilities to solve the nation’s most pressing economic issues. The departments will support activities within the Commerce Division and in direct engagements with DOC stakeholders. The departments will serve as key resources across the Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization (CGEM) and act as gateways to MITRE’s Independent Research and Development program, Labs and National Security Sector. The Department Manager for the Federal Statistics, Data Science and Integration Departmentwill be responsible for leading and managing MITRE’s portfolio of projects with the U.S. Census Bureua and other DOC bureaus and offices responsible for: Federal statistics and providing quality data about the nation’s people and economy. Producing economic accounts statistics that enable government and business decision-makers, researchers, and the public to understand the performance of the nation's economy. Supporting research-based innovation and honoring privacy and protecting confidentiality. Collecting source data, conducts research and analysis, develops and implements estimation methodologies, and disseminates statistics to the public. Ensuring that the Department's programs make full and appropriate use of information technology. Advancing Departmental initiatives by conducting economic analysis, promoting business and commerce, guiding data-driven decision-making and evidence-building activities, and increasing access to government data while ensuring privacy and confidentiality. Providing innovative data services to other federal agencies. As an operator of FFRDCs, we help the government build a better tomorrow, for all. Roles & Responsibilities: Accountable to respective Managing Director for the successful planning, development, and execution of a portion of the portfolio’s sponsor strategic outcomes and associated work program, as well as responsible for ensuring products delivered to sponsors from the department are of high technical quality, and ensures the hiring, development, and support of their workforce. The successful candidate must partner with Department of Commerce sponsors by demonstrating credible expertise and knowledge of Department of Commerce and the various bureaus’ missions and building strong MITRE capabilities and branding to assist the government in keeping the U.S. economy and its industries competitive globally.
