Essential Job Functions
The Claims Manager, Environmental will be responsible for:
• Directly handles an active inventory of primary and excess general liability, professional liability, contractor's pollution liability, and site pollution liability claims related to policies written by the Environmental Profit Center in various states
• Performs timely coverage analysis and determination, investigation into liability and damages, and timely exposure and reserve evaluation
• Proactively and strategically manages quality of claim handling, settlement negotiations, and disposition to ensure case handling decisions are logical, practical, and results-oriented, leading to cost-effective indemnity and expense outcomes
• Provides timely, meaningful claim information through high-quality oral and written presentations to Claims management, underwriters, reinsurers, and others to update them on losses impacting, or potentially impacting, Starr's policies
• Creates, cultivates, and grows relationships with profit centers
• Ensures professional interactions with all policyholders, brokers, and other stakeholders up to the C-Suite level
Job Requirements
• At least 10 to 15 years' experience managing, or overseeing the handling of, large, complex casualty claims, including at least two to three years' handling hazardous waste site claims and related coverage and tender (risk transfer) issues
• Superior litigation management and negotiation skills
• Superior writing and presentation skills and interpersonal skills with a strong diplomatic bent
• Self-starter who needs little direction and is passionate about developing, and executing on, creative solutions to our clients' most challenging business problems
• Team player who thrives in, and proactively contributes to, collaborative environment within his or her own team and across disciplines, i.e., Underwriting, Claims Operations, etc.
• Driven by desire to provide excellent customer services to all internal and external stakeholders
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to quickly reprioritize tasks and meet deadlines based on changing business goals and needs in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Innovative and curious with a desire for continuous learning and growth
• Travel may be required and will vary depending on business needs.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
• Law degree preferred; engineering and/or corporate risk management background a plus
