The position of Network Engineer (Fiber/Copper) ensures that the IT infrastructure is sufficiently robust, scalable, and efficient to deliver the integrated services underlying the physical environment. Responsible for the installation and the maintenance of the infrastructure path at all sites, from the data center to the user desktop. Responsibilities Applies infrastructure expertise, skills, and knowledge effectively in the installation of fiber optic and copper cables to required standards Installs infrastructure cabling and components when required for new installs, upgrades, or to repair faults Installs approved infrastructure switches, routers, servers, and other core network devices at the hardware level Applies new, and maintains existing, labels at all start, patch, and end points of the infrastructure Maintains an accurate database of all infrastructure start, patch, and end points Conducts internal quality control processes to verify conformance to industry and government standards for all infrastructure items Conducts network infrastructure site surveys, planning, and design for small projects Provides insight on creating a list of materials, bill of materials, estimating installation timelines, and documenting project status at all intervals Within general guidelines, manages assigned tasks based upon severity, workflow, and time constraints Maintains courteous and friendly rapport; communicates clearly and respectfully with customers Works with other IT Support, Network Engineers, and Server Administrators to resolve related technical issues as required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent Current Active TS/SCI clearance Two (2) years of hands-on experience terminating fiber & copper infrastructure Two (2) years of experience with infrastructure installation or network infrastructure support An understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, design, concepts, and theory Ability to travel up to 25 percent and in possession of, or ability to obtain, a U.S. Passport Ability to kneel, squat, bend over, reach into tight spaces to complete work, and lift 25 pounds Desired Qualifications: BICSI Certification (RCDD) Three (3) years of hands-on experience terminating fiber & copper infrastructure Three (3) years of experience with infrastructure installation or network infrastructure support Working experience with military, DoD civilians, or defense contractors Job ID 2024-13902 Work Type On-Site Company Description Work Where it Matters Akima Systems Engineering (ASE), an Akima company, is not just another federal systems support contractor.
