This individual will be responsible for developing and improving firmware of mechatronic designs with embedded microcontrollers, physical sensors, motors, solenoids, and data communication of smart, robust and most reliable commercial sensor flush valves and faucets. Responsibilities As an integral member of the electronics hardware team, you will have leadership and ownership responsibilities of the firmware architecture platform of the Finished Plumbing electronics designs. You will work closely with cross-functional technical leaders in electronics, mechanicals, and project management on new and existing product development from initial concepts to full product launch and ongoing support through a stage gate process. Research, develop, test, verify and release firmware to production of compact, power-conscious electronic systems incorporating embedded firmware, microcontrollers, sensors and actuators for commercial and industrial water management products that meet internal, customer and regulatory requirements. Translate high-level project and system requirements into well-defined hardware architectures by developing design concepts, performing component selection and schematic capture, directing printed circuit board (PCB) layout, bring up and verify prototypes, and support the product through manufacturing. Create and maintain clear project documentation, including design requirements, functional specifications, behavioral documents, BOMs, schematics, and test plans and reports. Drive a culture of continuous improvement establishing objectives for world class customer satisfaction using Zurn Elkay Business System (ZEBS). Conduct preliminary and detailed hardware reviews to ensure adherence to design requirements and performance expectations. Keep abreast of industry concepts, products, and trends associated with water control and management products for Proof-of-Concepts (POCs) evaluation and product development funnel. Experience and Skill Required Obtained a minimum bachelor and/or a master's degree electrical, electronic or computer engineering with 10 years proven experience in developing firmware, verifying and troubleshooting power-managed electronic systems for commercial and/or consumer products that meet internal, customer and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated ability to investigate, design, develop, verify and release to production compact electronics using embedded microcontrollers, environmental and physical sensors, DC motors and solenoids, switching power supplies, and serial communication and control ports, such as I2C, UART, SPI. Experienced with reading a wide range of electrical and electronic schematics, layouts and electronic circuits guiding electronic designs for optimal embedded, low-power circuits. Excellent hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills using standard electronic system test equipment: power supplies, oscilloscopes, frequency spectrum analyzers, firmware flash tools. Experienced in firmware design & development of electrical and electronics products for deployment in potentially harsh commercial environments and meeting regulatory certification (UL, FCC, CE, IC). Strong leadership skills including leading and development of teams. Able to generate clear, detailed concise documentation for system requirements, design specifications and reviews, as well as verification and manufacturing test plans. Able to work independently, as well as with software, mechanical, verification, manufacturing and quality teams, to analyze design tradeoffs and optimize product definition, performance and manufacturability while meeting product and business requirements. Strong presentation, project management, problem solving, multi-tasking, influencing, and verbal/written communication skills a must. Experience with DFM, DFT, DFMEA, PFMEA to ensure high manufacturing throughput and yield, and working with production teams to develop test strategies, processes, stations, fixtures and interfaces. Conduct preliminary and detailed hardware design reviews involving all design disciplines to ensure adherence to requirements. Document and address all issues in a timely manner. Hands-on experience writing embedded test firmware for design verification. Experience with TI MSP 430, and Microchip PIC, and ST Micro microcontrollers. Experience with C, C++, Smart BASIC, Labview, Python or related programming languages preferred. Experience with I2C, SPI and UART communication protocol from the firmware and electronic perspective.
