OverviewTRC Environmental Corporation is soliciting applications from highly motivated, qualified individuals to fill a full-time mid-level
Ecologist/Wetland Scientist position with an emphasis in ecological consulting, wetland and stream delineation, raptor nest surveys, Clean Water Act permitting, NEPA compliance, T&E habitat assessment, environmental documentation, stormwater monitoring or inspection, and technical report writing in our
Cleveland, Ohio or Columbus, Ohio office. Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, entry to mid-level Ecologists/Wetland Scientists with 2-6 years of experience. The successful applicant may be involved in a wide variety of projects including electric generation and transmission, solar power, natural gas pipeline, hydroelectric, wind generation, and transportation projects.
Applicants should be familiar with stream and wetland delineations and functional assessments as well as diverse biological field work with minimal supervision and have familiarity with Ohio botany, topographic maps, aerial photography, Trimble or other GPS units, and ArcGIS software. Applicants must also have experience conducting T&E habitat assessments, permitting projects at the federal, state, and local levels and be able to effectively coordinate field work, interact in the field with co-workers, clients, landowners, and other contractors, and comply with project budgets and schedules.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience with technical writing; Ohio botany; waterway permitting; NEPA; surface water delineations; Rare, Threatened and Endangered species surveys; bat mist netting. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of standard office productivity software.
Applicants must be able to effectively coordinate with team members, participate in field and reporting efforts; and interact well with others. The position will require local travel for fieldwork and the ability to conduct site visits working as part of a field team.
Responsibilities- Work under the direction of project managers and other task leaders in the performance of required field biological surveys and studies, and in-office reporting.
- Conduct biological monitoring and environmental inspection of construction projects.
- Assisting in field assessments, preparing technical reports, technical studies and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate activities and work products with other staff resources and offices, as needed.
- Conduct stormwater inspections/monitoring and write stormwater inspection and monitoring reports.
Qualifications- A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, or other similar environmental field is required. A Master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
- 2+ years of experience is required.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills are mandatory along with the ability to maintain a positive attitude during year-round field work.
- Familiarity with the flora and fauna of the Midwest as necessary.
- The successful candidate should be experienced in biological surveys and methodologies, including those conducted in accordance with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (i.e., "wetlands") and threatened and endangered species assessments.
- The successful candidate will also be expected to effectively document field data, provide interpretations, and present conclusions in written reports, memos, and emails; therefore, strong technical/scientific report writing is required and writing samples will be requested.
- Able to work outdoors conducting biological fieldwork in remote areas and extreme weather conditions. Must be comfortable using and operating a variety of field equipment such as handheld GPS units, electronic tablets, water quality instruments, 4WD and all-terrain vehicles, digital cameras, etc.
- Able to drive a 4WD pick-up truck.
- Able to travel and sometimes work for extended periods of time away from home.
- Possess a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to TRC's insurance carrier.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
