Description
Assists team of bat biologists with collecting data, research, conducting routine equipment maintenance/testing, and performing basic data entry. Ability to analyze acoustic data, or assist with other surveys such as wetland delineations, avian surveys, or botanical surveys a plus. A federal permit for bat handling is not required for this position.
Essential Functions Technical
- Successfully complete bat surveys using mist-nets, harp traps, and acoustic detectors.
- Basic understanding of scientific principles and understanding of various implementation techniques as related to area of focus.
- Basic wildlife and plant identification skills to assist with various surveys, including but not limited to, bats, birds, insects, fish, mussels, plants, wetlands, etc.
- Assist with collection of data and performing basic data entry.
- Be responsible for the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples.
- Prepare and organize equipment and documents for fieldwork. Assist with routine equipment maintenance and testing. Assist with transporting equipment to jobsite as well as setting up and breaking down equipment.
- Assist with review of reports and deliverables. Understanding of scientific writing and basic organizational and writing principles. Be able to review documents for grammatical errors. Assist with writing study plans, reports, and manuscripts.
- Coordinate with field technicians to ensure all proper PPE and field gear is available for projects. Assist with ensuring all required PPE and field gear is worn on every project.
- Makes valuable contributions to the team, coordinate team members where appropriate.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
- Begin to understand basic processes and technologies used and suggest improvements as needed or relevant. Begin to develop critical thinking of our data and scientific processes.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

- Understands the scope of work and communicates deviations or issues supervisor accordingly.
- Monitors project deadlines as it relates to deliverables within ones responsibilities.
- Meet designated deadlines. Alert supervisor if unable to meet deadline(s).
- Prepare status updates on assigned tasks. Communicate with team members.

- Connect with relevant networks to build a network of professional connections.
- Assist with providing technical support for proposal development.

- Onsite supervision of team.
- Trains and assists with the development of staff through day-to-day interactions and informal mentorship.

- Understands accurate timekeeping and the importance for project performance and budgets. Alerts management if a deadline will be missed.

Requirements
Educational and Other Requirements Years of Experience
Licensure/Certification
- Valid Driver's License.
- Open to pursuit of federal bat permit.
- Maintain current vaccinations, including rabies.
Degree
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science related field.
Software Capability
- Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Suite, Google Earth, Adobe, and Ajera.
