Ameresco currently has an opening for a Senior Project Development Engineer to join our Federal Engineering Team to develop and implement energy efficiency and distributed energy projects. This is a remote Western US region position with occasional travel required. Responsibilities: Coordinate visits to customer project sites to investigate and gather energy performance data for existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control systems. Identify opportunities for energy efficiency upgrades and installation of distributed energy resources such as solar PV and battery energy storage systems. Develop preliminary cost estimates for project implementation including engineering, equipment, construction, project management, operation, and maintenance expenses. Support the preparation of conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents including narrative scopes of work, drawings, and specifications. Support the evaluation of construction subcontractor bids and equipment vendor proposals to determine best value selections optimized for performance, pricing, and warranty. Prepare written content for technical proposals and reports. Develop approaches for project commissioning (Cx) and measurement and verification (M&V) of energy savings, in collaboration with appropriate Ameresco staff. Ensure that project scopes achieve guaranteed energy and performance metrics, meet customer requirements, and comply with industry standards, practices, specifications, and codes. Provide engineering support throughout all project phases (proposal, development, construction, commissioning, and operation). Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers. Work with the site Project Manager on ongoing contact, communication, and coordination with Ameresco customers and subcontractors in the design and construction phases, including project status updates and remedies for delays or other concerns. Coordinate with engineering/design subcontractors to ensure project design documentation is completed per project requirements and within schedule. Coordinate with construction subcontractors to ensure quality control and that projects are installed per design documents, delivered on time and within budget, and meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions. Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs. Project evaluations and assessment of results. Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university. Minimum 7 years of prior experience in an engineering or project development role. Ability to review confidential US security information. Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing. Ability to travel 25% of the time. Additional Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred. Experience leading development of large, Federal energy savings performance contracts (ESPC) and utility energy service contracts (UESC). Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles associated with energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies such as boilers, chillers, building automation systems, HVAC systems, building envelope. Demonstrated understanding of PV solar, battery energy storage systems, cogeneration, microgrids, power systems, and water/steam distribution systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation skills. Knowledge of measurement and verification (M&V) procedures. Experience using whole building energy or solar PV modeling software. Certification or educational progress toward Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
