The Logistics Specialist Intern is responsible for learning all aspects of the cargo routing process. Primarily, you will be learning logistics activities to meet business fulfillment requirements in parallel with the goal of transportation cost reduction. The position is responsible for collecting and communicating all necessary information related to upcoming and ongoing shipments, projects, and services, as well as providing logistics support when needed. Location: Fort Myers, FL Position/Classification: Part-Time; Non-Exempt (hourly), Internship Compensation: $15.00 per hour Hours of Work: Flexible business hours, Monday-Friday Drug Free Workplace and Equal Opportunity Employer Required Experience and Education: Basic communication skills Currently enrolled in college education (Required) Experience with Microsoft Excel Keys to be successful: Strong work ethic Team player and trustworthy Motivated and self-sufficient Items you'll support and work on: Complete and timely file and/or provide support for filing applicable tax-related returns and reports Route cargo in accordance with legal and customer requirements including: Cargo characteristics, Transport mode, Equipment type, Service level, Least cost, Transit time, Loading and offloading requirements Coordinate the routing process including: Using contract rates and least cost whenever possible, obtaining spot quotes for lanes or loads that aren’t contracted, and selecting carrier and tendering cargo in accordance with the process. Providing carrier, shipper, broker, consignee all pertinent docs and information as required Issue resolution and shipment responsibility Actively use either Allyn’s proprietary software or use the software chosen per the client Track and resolve freight claims Provide excellent customer service to Allyn customers Allyn is a privately held professional services firm established in 1992.
