Vacancy Announced: Director of Parks, Resorts and Golf; Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department Department: Department of Tourism and Recreation Job Type: Full-time Compensation: OTRD is seeking a full-time Director of State Parks to oversee all operations and activities of the State Parks Division headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK. Basic Purpose: The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department’s (OTRD) mission is to advance the exceptional quality of life in Oklahoma by preserving, maintaining, and promoting our natural assets and cultural amenities. Typical Functions: Establishes, with the Executive Director and nine-member advisory commission, the priorities and direction of the state park system. Oversees the management of all elements of the State Parks Division, applying the most efficient and effective uses of staff and financial resources to create an inclusive and engaging parks system. Leads the division with vision and integrity, working closely with agency and division senior leadership to support their efforts and build trust with all division staff and park system users. Ensures the overall financial health and security of the park system, overseeing funding strategies for the division, including methods for increasing earned revenue. Effectively leads the division workforce of approximately 700 full-time and seasonal employees. Identifies, develops, implements, and is accountable for innovative strategies that improve the division’s ability to achieve its goals, including workforce professional development and customer service excellence. Plans and supervises the preparation of the Parks Division budget and maintains oversight of park expenditures. Directs the preparation of reports, contracts, leases, and permits connected with the operation of state parks and recreation areas. Approves personnel actions; supervises the training and performance evaluation of personnel. Directs and supervises park regional managers and park managers concerning operational issues. Other duties to ensure an efficient operation of the Division and the Department. Education and Experience: Required: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college; five years of senior management work experience is strongly preferred. Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in park management, natural resource management, outdoor recreation, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; two years of experience providing information to executive management; management experience in natural resources, hospitality, or historic preservation organizations. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: Authoritative knowledge of the organization, administrative policies, and procedures of a typical state park system; thorough knowledge of Oklahoma’s eco-regions and conservation principles; ability to plan and direct administrative policies; effective communication skills; ability to travel, including overnight stays as needed; a valid Oklahoma driver’s license is required.
