AES US Renewables (AES) is seeking a Director of Transmission Strategy to lead our Transmission Strategy team. This team is central to continuing our industry leadership as one of the largest U.S. Independent Clean Power Producers, across Solar, Wind, Storage, Green Hydrogen, and Emerging Technologies. The Transmission Strategy team is responsible for setting a transmission focused strategy in all Continental U.S. energy markets, and integrating that strategy with Development, Commercial, Execution, and other strategic inputs throughout AES. This strategy will be applied to prioritizing our greenfield efforts, acquisition targets, and our existing project pipeline. The Transmission Strategy team is also responsible for project specific assessment of network impacts, and deliverability. This function is critical through all stages of development. The Transmission Strategy team relies on traditional transmission planning and load flow analysis, while also pioneering innovative ways to anticipate transmission network opportunities and risks. You would lead and grow this team, which is central to enabling AES to continue our role as an industry leader in accelerating the future of energy. Desired Skills and Expertise: Deep relevant experience across various U.S. energy regions, including ISO and non-ISO regions. Experience running power flow studies (i.e. TARA, Powerworld, GE PSLF, Siemens PSS/E). Experience with production cost modeling (PROMOD IV, GE Maps, Aurora), curtailment and locational marginal pricing. Experience with ISO/RTO/TO Transmission Planning processes. Experience with Transmission Services Agreements (TSAs) and wheeling across balancing authorities. Experience with renewable energy development. Previous management of direct reports including hiring and onboarding new talent. Ability to create a positive and productive teamwork environment. Vendor contract management. Ability to communicate effectively in both commercial and technical venues. Willingness to travel as needed, which is not expected to exceed 20% of the time. Vision for what is needed to achieve success and ability to implement an effective plan of action. Candidates are not required to have all of the above skills and expertise.
