About the Role : The responsibility of the role includes underwriting a portfolio of Energy accounts (with headquarters in the United States) within company guidelines and appetite, managing and building relationships with brokers and clients as well as interaction with internal stakeholders. Interact with brokers and clients to renew existing business and to source new business on behalf of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and represent the company at industry events and conferences. Evaluate insurance submissions including risk analysis; natural catastrophe assessment; review of policy wordings; program structuring; costing & pricing; negotiate terms & conditions; ensure contract certainty. Interact and coordinate deal referrals with supporting units within Swiss Re including Products Underwriting; Contracts and Wordings, Claims, Risk Engineering Services; Natural Catastrophe Experts, Legal & Compliance, International Business Team etc. to ensure compliance with Swiss Re Underwriting standards and regulatory requirements. Use Swiss Re proprietary costing and workflow tools. Support various special projects to improve underwriting profitability, effectiveness and efficiency. Assume technical leadership of important topics such as underwriting in key industry (i.e. power generation) or special coverages. Help train new underwriters and support functions. About the Team : You will be part of a small but dynamic and collaborative team of experienced underwriters, focused on profit-oriented underwriting of Energy Property business. We are a multicultural team with a diverse set of backgrounds, located in New York and Houston. The portfolio written includes the following industry segments: Power & Utilities including renewable energy, Oil and Gas Downstream and Midstream, Petrochemicals and Mining. We support companies in their energy transition and manage their risks About You : Passionate about Energy Experience in underwriting Energy Property; 3-5 years for Underwriter role; 7-10 years for Senior Underwriter role. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and coordinate with internal and external partners. Strong entrepreneurial and customer focused mentality; ability to work independently within a team. In-depth knowledge of Power Generation & Utilities, Renewable Energy, Onshore Energy (Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals), Mining Industries. Background in risk assessment of both Fire/Machinery Breakdown and natural catastrophe risks. Knowledge of Policy Wordings. Knowledge of international property insurance placements. Strong analytical skills and a background in statistics. Use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point are crucial. Results oriented with a friendly, collegial and open communication style. Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills. Additional language skills are desirable. Four-year degree, with a minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited university, or equivalent. Additional professional designations and/or degrees such as PE, MS, MBA, CPCU, ARM are desirable. Position will require 10-20% travel. The position will be located in our Houston, TX office. Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office two to three days per week on average.
