About the Position: The Sheet Metal Mechanic is an integral part of the company’s HVAC service and installation team. The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for performing installation, repairs, demo, and fabrication to HVAC equipment and duct systems. Proficiency in fabricating and installing various types of HVAC duct systems is a prerequisite. The role mandates adherence to codes, specifications, and Company standards to ensure timely and budget-conscious completion of work. Job Duties and Functions: Install and repair various mechanical ductwork, including Supply, Return, Outside Air, Exhaust, Fresh Air, and MUA. Expertise in measuring, layout, problem solving, hanging, and supporting ductwork systems. Knowledgeable of Furnace, Boiler, Heat Pump, ERV, Split systems, MUA, and other HVAC systems. Interpret plans, specifications, and drawings with precision. Ability to coordinate work from start to finish including, but not limited to, gathering necessary material and staying within allotted hours. Knowledge of demolition and removal of equipment & ductwork. Capability in fire stopping & sleeve installations. Comprehension of methods to secure ductwork with brackets, clamps, and hangers. Coordinate ductwork system layout with project superintendent, owners’ rep, or other trades as required. Maintain close communication with the sheet metal department and project manager to provide project progress updates. Proactively identify and report any issues to the sheet metal department and project manager. Provide feedback to assist with billing and labor forecasting. Monitor project material inventory and coordinate return of excess material at project completion. Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols. Complete necessary paperwork for billing and time reporting. Maintain proper truck stock levels and follow inventory guidelines. Keep the company vehicle well-maintained, including timely oil changes and reporting any problems for scheduled repairs. Document model, serial , unit description, etc. when needed. Willingness to work overtime during seasonal peaks. Capable of lifting components, climbing ladders, and maintaining the physical dexterity required for servicing HVAC equipment. Adhere to all Company procedures outlined in the company manual. Collaborate effectively as a team member to contribute to the success of the Company and achieve customer satisfaction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education - HVAC Technical School or associate degree. License - Must hold a CT SM2 Journeyman’s license and valid driver’s license. Knowledge – Must have familiarity with mechanical operation of HVAC systems and components. Industry Experience – Minimum of 3 years working in the mechanical construction industry.
