The Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, tenure track Assistant Professor position. Job Posting Link This position will provide expertise in aquaculture, and contribute to the research and outreach missions of the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station. The incumbent will develop and maintain an externally funded program conducting original and independent research, training, and outreach in aquaculture, with emphasis on shellfish and seaweeds. The incumbent will have an academic home in an appropriate department in the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS), such as the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences (FWCS), the Department of Microbiology, or the Department of Food Sustainability and Technology. As a member of the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station (COMES), the incumbent will be expected to work closely with coastal communities and federal, state, and private organizations in support of the COMES mission “to understand, utilize, and sustain marine resources and coastal ecosystems in order to benefit the citizens of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, the Nation, and the World.” The incumbent will join a diverse, welcoming, and vibrant group of faculty, staff, and students who strive to create a sense of place and belonging. Research and Scholarly Activities (50%) Develop an externally funded program conducting original and independent research and training, focusing on key issues in West Coast aquaculture and the marine environment, with an emphasis on shellfish and seaweed. Participate in multidisciplinary collaborative opportunities with faculty members from CAS, FWCS, and other OSU Colleges and Departments, as well as with industry stakeholders and faculty and staff from external universities and agencies. Serve as an investigator on a USDA-NIFA Hatch collaborative or Hatch multistate project. Develop and present research scholarship to peer audiences and policy-makers. Mentor graduate students or undergraduate researchers who contribute to the incumbent’s research accomplishments. Maintain an externally funded research program that adheres to OSU’s requirements for compliance and safety. Conduct research that leads to scholarly outcomes, including refereed journal articles and presentations at professional meetings. Teaching and Advising (25%) Teach courses annually in an appropriate department, amounting to 3-6 credit hours in total. Contribute to teaching of graduate or undergraduate level courses, seminars, and workshops. Advise and mentor undergraduates or serve on committees of graduate students. Outreach (15%) Engage stakeholder groups including private fishery organizations, private aquaculture organizations, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and coastal communities. Lead outreach programs expected to lead to scholarly outcomes. Service (10%) Serve the Unit, Department, College, and University in ways that are relevant to assigned duties.
