The work encompasses a wide range of repair, replacement, and improvement services to restore dependability and sustainability to hydro power facilities, or to increase capacity and/or efficiency. Projects range in size and scope, but routinely span from component assessment, design, and procurement to site installation and commissioning. Hydro power is recognized as the most economic form of renewable energy, and the company is committed to environmentally friendly concepts. Role Description: This is a hands-on position, both by procedure and on the floor assistance. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Major responsibilities are listed but not limited to the following duties: Machinist must have knowledge of, and be able to competently and safely: Operate various horizontal and vertical lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, and other machine tools as assigned. Machines could be both of manual type and CNC controlled. Use metal cutting tooling. Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments as assigned. Rig loads and operate overhead cranes. Read drawings and make sketches. Interact with and clearly communicate with co-workers and management in a team-like atmosphere. Ensure all work complies to quality and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time. Ensure housekeeping is ongoing by maintaining a clean and safe workplace. Due to the nature of the work, must have flexibility to work OT & shifts with short notice. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum, completion of a 2-year machining technology course. Or at least 3 years of manual and/or CNC machining experience. Setup and operation of large capacity manual machine tools. Experience operating and programming large multi-axis CNC equipment. COMPETENCIES: Safety is first priority in all aspects of work. Independently operate manual and CNC machine tools. Independently plan and setup machining operations, then execute work. Comfort with large components that require a high degree of accuracy. Independently use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other measuring instruments as assigned and clearly document measurements.
