Overview This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the mandates of pertinent environmental regulations. Implements, supports, and coordinates environmental protection and compliance activities for Jefferson County Power Generation. Typically works under close supervision of plant management and/or experienced plant personnel. Responsibilities Directly or indirectly responsible for all aspects of environmental compliance for areas assigned by the station manager or other plant personnel. Assists with activities to place, monitor quality, and report on coal combustion products (CCP's). Performs routine monitoring, audits and provides guidance of station compliance for all air, water, hazardous materials, and solid waste requirements. Monitors plant processes for environmental compliance and seeks out ways for process improvement. Acts on direction of station manager or other plant personnel to implement and coordinate assignments related to environmental activities. Act as a backup to positions presently responsible for day to day environmental tasks in air, water, hazardous waste, etc. Ensures adherence with safe work practices and procedures. Reviews and analyzes specific scientific data and engineered drawings. Provides regular reporting to Station Managers concerning environmental performance. Assists in the review and analysis of proposed/existing environmental legislation/regulations. Supports the preparation of accurate and timely reports as necessary for submittal to regulatory agencies. Maintains records as required by company policy and environmental regulations. Provides regular communications to Environmental Affairs to: (1) support communication to regulatory agencies regarding compliance, (2) keep current on regulatory development, to provide regular status and circumstances regarding plant operations and status, (3) advise Station Management and staff, and keep plant personnel advised of changes. Supports planning activities related to environmental compliance. Provides information and assists in the development of plant budgets, operating, and investment plans. Supports and conducts established environmental compliance training, tailgates, and information sessions for plant personnel. Supports, leads, develops, and oversees waste reduction, recycling and alternative product programs. Coordinates and provides data as requested for permitting in the air, water and waste areas. Coordinates and provides data as requested for maintaining facility environmental plans. Assists or supports agency inspections. Communicates and provides documents to agency representatives to demonstrate compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Educational Experience Bachelor's degree in environmental science, applied science, or related technical discipline is required. Preferred Qualifications Some professional environmental regulatory and/or technical experience is preferred. Possesses minimal or some knowledge of environmental theories, principles, and practices. Knowledge of power plant operations/equipment preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills. Comfortable with communicating with all stakeholder groups. Ability to use formal training in practical application to work assignments. Able to process data and plant conditions to assess environmental performance, opportunities for improvement, etc. Work Conditions Normal office environment with frequent exposure to power plant equipment, conditions, and operations. Must be able to walk on grating at high elevations. Perform field work when necessary. Expect to be accessible during off hours. Physical Efforts Typical office work. Frequent activity in the plant environment that involves, driving, frequent standing, climbing ladders, or walking.
