Job Description Primary Function: Perform both mechanical and/or electrical engineering presentation tasks from functional specifications for Motor Control Centers (MCCs), AC motor drive houses, and electrical distribution panels. Work to include chassis, frame and cable sizing; preparation of assembly specifications and bills of material selection of OEM components for utility and reliability; constructability and cost. Work is supervised by a licensed PE and is work-station based in close proximity to shop and assembly facilities to permit ample collaboration with shop leads and technicians. Some work is performed at client facilities and may require short visits to industrial sites offshore. Job Duties: Convert client specifications to a design basis document. Apply applicable standards of IEC, IEEE and NFPA by reference. Finished designs shall comply with applicable statutory codes (Texas) and US federal regulations for offshore facilities. Follow industry standard design principles and client approval processes to develop shop specifications for fabricating MCCs, control system circuitry (hardware and software) to client specifications. Use Company provided CAD software to document in presentation formats designs and design changes proposed to client facilities and equipment. Work with layers for visual isolation of disassembled components. Provide guidance and instruction to shop technicians in disassembly and reassembly of equipment delivered for possible repair. Use written procedures to describe critical disassembly, test and reassembly phases of each work order. Select predictably reliable electrical components from authorized OEMs for use in Company deliverables. Ensure cost and availability are commensurate with the benefits of using the product; prepare necessary cost and technical justification for selection decisions. Develop detailed written work scope descriptions for use in commercial proposals; develop detailed labor and material cost estimates. Make recommendations for design improvements to include programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI). Establish shop and field test procedures applicable for each job. Lead efforts to identify new sensor and control technologies and establish networks to maintain awareness of technology developments. Interface with internal and external customers and vendors. Required Qualifications: Associates in Drafting or Engineering w/ interning or some experience OR Completion of accredited technical school program with at least 3 years work experience in an electrical and/or industrial controls position. OR experience in fabrication shop or equivalent. U.S. with valid driver license. Desired Skills and Proficiencies: Successful performance requires familiarity with industry codes, standards, and statutory regulations, ensuring their correct application in custom design work. Entry-level experience in mechanical design tasks, such as working with sheet-metal features, basic component design, and material selection, is essential. Understanding of standard manufacturing practices and the ability to apply these to custom drawings is also required. Bonus experience includes entry-level knowledge of solid-state circuitry commonly used in industrial control solutions. This foundational experience supports future work involving the innovative application of new technologies to address motor control and power conversion challenges. The successful applicant will have good verbal skills oral and written and experience working with other technicians. Will be self-motivated with strong analytical and creative instincts. Shall have demonstrated proficiencies with everyday software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets and database structures). Not all of the following are pre-requisites for the candidate, but most all shall be acquired proficiencies within a year after joining. Proficient with 3D-CAD software’s such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, PTC Creo, etc. Knowledge of both imperial and metric units, ability to identify hardware, creating BOM’s. Must be able to use basic hand measurement tools such as rulers, calipers, micrometers. Bonus Proficiencies: CAD/CAM proficiency with AutoDesk’s AutoCAD and either Inventor or SolidWorks. PSpice. EAGLE or KiCAD embedded circuit design tools. Electrical system simulation software, SKM PTW or similar. At least one major programming language (C++, C#, VisualBasic).
