About New Berlin The New Berlin Fire Department was established in 1954 by town residents dedicated to serving the community. In 2001, the NBFD began the transition from a volunteer to a combination department to meet the growing needs of the city. On July 31, 2008, the NBFD began 24/7 paramedic coverage. The department has continued to expand our current staffing, which currently includes 53 full-time sworn personnel and two civilian employees. Full-time line personnel work a 48/96 shift schedule responding to approximately 5,000 calls annually. Our personnel are highly trained and motivated individuals who are consistently looking at ways to improve our service delivery. Through education, training, and statistical data collection, we are continually analyzing how to best provide services to the citizens of New Berlin in a cost-effective manner. New Berlin is well served by a dedicated, community-focused City Council and staff who bring diverse experiences and are committed to the betterment of our community. The City’s high quality of life, wide range of housing opportunities, city amenities with a mixture of rural areas, and strong sense of community make New Berlin an attractive place to work and live, a fact that is proudly attested to by its 40,000 residents.
