About this Opportunity Hillsboro Water is seeking a motivated and skilled Water Resources Specialist to join its growing team. This is an exciting position, providing support to all Resource Division projects encompassing conservation, source water protection, and water quality. The focus of this position is to support the Water Resources Division’s public facing programs, including education and outreach initiatives for the Department. Hillsboro Water leads and participates in projects and partnerships with a focus on promoting community-based education on water conservation and protecting our drinking water supply in the Tualatin River Basin. What You Will Be Doing The Water Resource Specialist will work with the Natural Resources Program Coordinator and other Resources staff to deliver projects and programs that support the Department's interest in promoting water conservation efforts and protecting our drinking water supply. This will include supporting Water Department conservation and rebate programs, source water protection projects, assisting with data management and reporting, community engagement and event representation, as well as assisting with water quality sampling as needed. Specifically, this position will give youth presentations, table events, and promote department initiatives through various outreach avenues. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Assist in the development and presentation of public education materials, training and outreach programs. Provide technical support and assistance in the planning, development and implementation of conservation and rebate programs, source water protection projects and various water resources on-going projects. Assist in updating data for on-going reporting efforts. Represent Hillsboro Water and JWC through events and outreach opportunities, as well as in the school classroom setting. Gather, research, and analyze data; prepares documentation, maps, estimates, reports, plans and correspondence for internal benchmarking, regulatory compliance, and informing governing boards. Respond to public information requests, inquiries, and complaints; research records and documents and provides information. Assist the Water Quality Team in the collection of water samples from a variety of sources, as needed. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Current/Upcoming Projects Represent Hillsboro Water at events. Support community outreach and education efforts. Support conservation education programs, home water audits, and water efficiency rebate programs. Support the development of source water protection project grants. Support internal data requests and reporting needs. Support water quality sampling as needed. Successful Candidates Will Have: Good organization and communication skills. Knowledge of natural water systems and water quality principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Job Qualifications & Requirements (At the time of application in addition to skills, knowledge and abilities listed above) Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Chemistry, Ecology, Geography, Engineering Science, Geology, Education, Communication or a closely related field and two years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Licensing/Certifications Valid Driver’s License Spanish bilingual proficiency highly preferred, but not required.
