Coffman Engineers is seeking a highly motivated Fire Protection Engineer with at least four years' experience to join our large FP team (70) of nationwide professionals Our Fire Protection team is fully integrated with Coffman Engineers other multi discipline engineering teams including You would support your local office Fire Protection Department, as well as support other Coffman offices across the country working with our many nationwide clients. Efforts would include providing our clients with project support for alternative and renewable energy, Energy Storage, Biofuels, Battery storage, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), Combined Heat and Power, Microgrids, EV charging facilities, Stadiums, high rises, hospitals, military facilities, industrial facilities, and Manufacturing. This Nationwide support may require monthly travel to one of the other 20 Coffman offices or to project locations across the North American region. Fire protection design services would include automatic suppression system design; fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design; life safety code analysis; passive fire protection analysis; smoke control analysis; facility layouts, explosion control; battery storage thermal runaway management; hazard mitigation analysis; emergency response plans; Fire marshal coordination; CFD modeling, as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research. In This Role You Will: Perform analysis of existing fire protection systems and design new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, gas detection, explosion control, alarm and mass notification systems. Perform building and site, fire and life safety code analysis and interpretation. Manage effective communication with colleagues, clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Work with local and state Fire Marshals (AHJs) and Fire Chiefs. Work with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) suppliers for their testing and safety systems (fire panels, fire pumps, fire tanks, lithium ion batteries, hydrogen equipment, EV charging, fuel storage, carbon capture etc.) Work with stakeholder fire protection teams including electrical utilities, oil and gas companies, manufacturers, developers, power generation operators, etc. Lead and manage internal team to provide well-coordinated and high-quality design sets and associated fire protection plans. Manage profitability of projects and maintain working relationship with clients. Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution. Attend and participate in local and national trade organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA. Conduct business development activities and foster long term client relationships and create new ones. Qualifications Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Sciences, or related engineering field. Professional Engineering (PE) license (preferred). Minimum of 4 years working experience in the Fire Protection Consulting profession.
