POSITION INFORMATION Job Title: Tractor Driver Location: Mystic Maintenance Facility Employment Period: 11/10/24 - 3/15/25 Number of Positions: 1 About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, golf courses, skating rinks, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Tractor Driver. POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring participation in the DCR Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program Policy and subject to Pre-placement and Random DOT Drug and Alcohol testing. Incumbents will operate heavy power-operated equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and bulldozers for the construction, maintenance, and repair of highways, parks, etc. Responsibilities include operating heavy dump and sanitation trucks, snow plows, sanders, tractor-drawn and wide area mowers, performing routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, maintaining records, and preparing reports. SPECIFIC DUTIES: Operates tractors for mowing grass and slopes, maintaining athletic fields, and surf raking beaches. Repairs and maintains mobile park and construction equipment. Assists in carpentry, plumbing, and repair work in agency buildings. Operates heavy power-operated equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, and catch basin machines. Operates heavy dump and sanitation trucks, snow plows, sanders, and other equipment for highway and grounds maintenance. Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Maintains records and prepares reports on vehicle use, mileage, expenses, etc. Performs related duties such as loading and unloading furniture, equipment, and supplies. Inspects work performed by contractors for compliance with specifications. Performs other related duties as required. LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Possession of a current and valid 2A Massachusetts Hoisting license. Possession of a current and valid CDL license. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of methods and techniques in the use, care, and safe operation of heavy and specialized equipment. Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for heavy equipment. Knowledge of State Laws regarding equipment operation on highways. Ability to operate heavy and specialized equipment and perform manual labor in varying climatic conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: None. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B CDL License. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 2B Hoisting License.
