Our Energy & Resources practice is looking for an experienced Energy Networks Manager to join the team. You will be working at the heart of the energy transition with a focus on energy networks. Energy networks are at the foundation of a successful transition. Transmission and distribution electric and gas networks provide the critical connectivity between generators and customers, and are facing unprecedented disruption from emerging needs such as exposure to extreme weather, accelerated distributed energy resource (DER) and electric vehicle adoption, and massive demand for new interconnections as the grid decarbonizes.
Our services are rapidly increasing in demand from utilities, regulators, and energy investors who are seeking to adapt their business models in order to respond to the risks and opportunities from climate change. You will be an incredibly important part of our extended team providing energy and resources sectoral insights into advising energy network's clients on how to best navigate this disruption and position for future success.
Our Energy and Resources team gives our clients an unparalleled combination of energy transition expertise and operational insight. We deliver a 360-view of the energy transition to foremost global and regional energy companies, associations and regulators, investors, developers, lenders and across the entire energy value chain. Led by a Senior Management Team respected within the industry, we help our clients shape, define and implement change in the energy transition.
What you will be doing - You will work as part of a core team delivering exciting and complex programs for our clients whose focus is maintaining a safe, reliable, clean, and affordable network to keep the lights and heat on while moving rapidly towards a more distributed and decarbonized future. Below is a sample of the type of work you could be supporting
- You will conduct vulnerabilities studies to forecast the financial impact to network assets from the physical risks of climate change (e.g., flood, wind, heat, wildfires) and development of resilience adaptation plans to mitigate those risks
- You will evaluate alternative utility regulatory strategies like performance-based ratemaking to test new regimes that better align customer and shareholder objectives
- You will conduct hosting capacity studies based on forecasted DER and EV propensity modeling to inform new investments required
- You will develop market designs and program structures to allow DERs to provide services for bulk transmissions support (under FERC 2222) and distribution level services
- You will support energy networks to shape the future of the US energy market and the roles of energy networks in enabling and delivering their net zero targets
- You will support energy networks & regulators in planning for future generation needs and evaluating cost-effective clean generation resources against alternatives
- You will support different global investors and asset developers to take forward major new offshore network infrastructure projects
- You will shape the strategic digital roadmap, leading vendor selection and the design and delivery of leading network management and grid optimization solutions (e.g., ADMS, DERMS, advanced planning tools, etc.) for transmission and distribution companies
- You will lead operational excellence programs within energy network businesses to realize market leading efficiency within field and capital program functions and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- You will support & deliver large-scale government programs that deliver sustainability, resiliency, energy affordability, and environmental justice
Your skills and experience- Our Manager role requires 6+ years of relevant experience in a consulting or industry role, with experience in transformation initiatives. - You will have knowledge of current and future energy sector ambitions and challenges, and a passion around the energy transition
- You will have experience within regulated utilities ideally electricity/gas networks or system/market operators
- You will have excellent communication and presentation skills and a track record of effective team working
- You will have project / delivery experience within a management consultancy or similar within industry
- You will have strong analytical skills, and ability to develop innovative business solutions based on effective processes and focused on business value outcomes
- You will have the ability to take ownership and deliver results in challenging, client-facing environments
- You will have the ability to work flexibly across different client types and US geographies
- You will have the ability to support & manage complex, multi-faceted programs that involve multiple stakeholders & business partners
