The Senior Structural Design Engineer is responsible for analyzing and defining structural requirements on mechanical anchoring systems. The candidate should demonstrate a history of innovation, technical prowess, project management skills, a strong work ethic, and an ability to work cross functionally. Tesla's multidisciplinary Solar Hardware Engineering Team develops novel solar systems for the purpose of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. This group is focused on design conception, prototyping, and manufacturing of novel solar products. New concepts are evaluated based upon first principles, rigorous cost analysis, and feasibility testing.
Responsibilities - Subject matter expert for structural engineering design
- Dynamic analysis of structural responses from wind excitation and snow loading
- Aerodynamic and aeroelastic modeling of components and cladding
- Design and analyze anchoring withdrawal into wood, metals, and concrete structures.
- Develop mechanical design solutions to complex environmental responses
- Cross functional participation in product requirement definition
- Cross functional participation in DFMEA and design validation plans
- Manufacture prototypes and create validation test plans
- Create cost models and economic justification to proposed solutions
- Read and interpret building codes and standards
Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with Structural or Wind Engineering concentration, equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of structural analysis experience or an advanced degree in one of the above fields
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in California strongly preferred
- Must be proficient in interpretation of performance goals and building code compliance based on ASCE 7 standard
- Must be proficient in Solidworks, CATIA, or similar 3D modeling software
- Must be proficient in Altair, Ansys, or similar simulation software
- Demonstrated record of creative problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated record of success working in a cross disciplinary, multi-cultural environment
- Demonstrated record of success working in a high pressure, tight deadline situation

$137,680 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
